Cram, I'm gonna need to see that review. I've already seen a bunch of details that add to the laundry list of reasons to absolutely loathe this film. In fact, if I am dragged to see this thing, I will make it a point of honor to make sure I am thrown out of the theatre.

I guess we'll keep this thread spoiler free. Or at least minor stuff. There are some people suggesting I give the movie a chance. I totally would have had no problem doing that, had they not been so pathetic with Shatner.

That is THE chief reason, I find it hard to give this movie a chance... ***above bold type emphasis added by Wahrheit***

That's why a lot for me depends on the treatment of the character of Kirk. I want hope. I'm not necessarily talking about the Nero cancels canon kind of hope. If there's some sort of open door for a Shatner appearance, something from Nimoy that indicates that Generations was indeed no longer Kirk's fate, anything, even if Shatner doesn't appear in Trek XII, it would restore hope for the character. But without that, the movie doesn't accomplish much.

I know. It's like beating the Russians in a nuclear war, but destroying the world in the process. I didn't read the comic book prequel to this movie, which does imply that the original universe continues, but how can it really? If it does, then the movie has no point. Why bother travelling back in time? Nero would only be creating another timeline, so there's no harm done.
Why HAVE a temporal prime directive, if you can't change history?
And again, in Trek history, there are many universes, but only ONE timeline. Hence, time travel is a tough thing to deal with.
So comic book or not, if history is changed, there's no way canon can be preserved. Curiosity has me wondering about the last scene of the movie. Or at least, the last scene with Nimoy. If there is that "hope" I am looking for, Nimoy's final scene will reveal it. If it's there, I would be happy. If it's not, I would be pissed.

Marc,
I recommend you change the title of this folder to "Star Trek (2009)" at this point.

As I said on the article Page, it's nice to see Wahlberg admit that he's a brainless idiot totally lacking in imagination.
Let him go back to the "Planet of the Apes" where he belongs.
Over at Blastr:

I saw that, but in reality, where has Abrams ever said any of those things?

So I watched this movie again last night for the first time in a couple years, and I stand by my feelings before. The movie was good, but not great.
They could have done this movie perfectly. It showed that Abrams does have the talent to do this right, but chose to do things his way.
How different would the movie have been without killing the prime universe?
It still would have been an introductory movie, but one that actually has the facts that the knowledgeable fan knows.
Could it still involved a time traveling jerk and Spock Prime? Sure.
But things like destroying Vulcan and killing Amanda were just statements to say, "look at me, I'm doing things different."

I really like his graph ranking Star Trek feature films near the beginning of Part 1 here!
