Any fans of this show?
I am, and one thing I like is that for the most part, it hasn't been political.
I'll talk about the latest episode here, so spoilers....
Last night we got the backstory of Randall's birth mom. Despite this being a great show, sometimes they do episodes like this and they don't work at all. Perfect example was an episode on the backstory of Deja--which I consider the "Spock's Brain" of This Is Us. Awful episode.
I think the problem with episodes like these is that they don't really feature the Pearson family, but newer or very rarely used characters. Doing an episode on Randall's birth mom might be the equivalent of doing a Star Trek story on Picard's brother's college years.
But I will say that of the non-Pearson centric episodes, this one was better than normal. Not my favorite episode of the series, but not bad either.

This is Us does do that though.
The Deja episode was the Spock's Brain of this show. I was so bored during it. And the show is usually great. I think Jack is the key to the show. I wonder if they regret killing him off. Of course, his death was so important to the way the characters turn out in the present, and it's so creative to see how they work him in.
