Not sure if there are any baseball fans at all in this group, but I'm a pretty big Yankees fan. So damn it, here's a thread. I'm actually heading into the Stadium today for a special workout day. First event for the public.

The NYY is my favorite ball club. I've only seen them a few times, playing against the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners were always at their best playing against them, even though they usually lost. The NYY made them better players, every time.

That happens a lot. Usually, the Yankees are the team to beat, or at least the highest paid, and that brings out the best in opponents.

It's hard NOT to consider Jeter your favorite player. If not him, then Mo. I was there tonight. I'm an 81 game season ticket holder.

I guess I'd go with A-Rod, since I saw him in person in the 90's, when the Mariners' roster was my dream team and I held tickets.
I've been told that men hate the designated hitter rule. True? Well, Edgar Martinez , DH, was my real favorite. Randy Johnson was amazing, and the roster included Ray Buhner and Ken Griffey, Jr. Loved that team. Loved the Kingdome. I left for CA just as the roster fell apart, and the new stadium was being built.

I absolutely do not hate the DH rule. I think fans of NL teams don't like it, but I am an AL fan. I think pitchers who can't hit MLB pitching shouldn't be hitting. The DH makes sense.

Good! Since it works for you, I'm going to stop apologizing about liking DHs.

It's only one game. Let's not forget, he sucked in the first 4 starts last year. After that, he was the best pitcher in baseball.

The outfield walls and the grass are gone. It would take work, and if I had a vote, I would go home.

sportscenter had homeruns stats for new stadium compared to old stadium.it was like 30 to 10 or something like that.thats for the same amount of games as last year.move fences back or those million dollar arms will be wasted.

It's alarming, but too short of a sample to really get an idea if it's the Stadium, or lousy pitching/good hitting. There isn't much room to move fences back without sacrificing seats. If it is the wind, they think that once the real stadium is gone, that could change the wind patterns.
Also, they may have to do some things to block the wind in the future. $1.5 billion and they didn't realize the wind would carry the ball.

LOL!
This reminds me of an L&O episode. It's titled Empire, and was made in 1999 with Julia Roberts and her then off-screen boyfriend, Benjamin Bratt (Lt. Rey).
Julia's character's reasoning for what she did was to be a part of history. I can't find the quote, but she said (paraphrased), "Look at the Parthenon. It's still standing after thousands of years. In one hundred years no one will remember me, or what I did. But that stadium will still be here, and I will be a part of history."
I instantly thought: We tear down most of our stadiums about every 20 years to build new ones. And you think that stadium will still be here in 100 years?

Well, actually, Fenway was built in 1912, and you're going to feel silly, but Camden opened in 1992.

Figured I'd bring this thread back to the top. Any baseball fans among the new board?
Last time this thread was active, the Yankees won the World Series. That can't be a coincidence.

I don't follow baseball or any sports really. However, living my entire life in eastern Massachusetts means that the one thing I must do is hate the Yankees. So... go Sox.

I can respect that. I hate the Red Sox like they were a team of Brannon Bragas.
