The biggest Big Bang surprise I had was when I found out the guy who played Leonard is NOT gay.
Sheldon is just a funny role, and he's a very good actor. I'd be annoyed if SHELDON turned out to be gay. He's really asexual. He just doesn't have those feelings of physical attraction. But he does clearly care about Amy.

I don't watch the show, although I gathered what you're saying about the character from seeing its commercials, including very recently. However, don't be surprised if the actor coming out of the closet is also a lead-in to declaring him gay. That might also be where they intend on taking the show next season.

I hope not. That would betray the character.
It also is not necessary. NPH is a well known gay actor, but the character he plays is as straight as they come.

By the way, I don't know your sense of humor, but most people like sitcoms, and if you don't watch this show, I highly recommend it. It's one of the funnier shows on TV right now--even better for a Trek fan.

Someone in my family tried getting me to watch this show, but I don't like the nerd stereotyping frankly, so I haven't bothered with it.

It's not that bad. Nothing like Revenge of the Nerds or anything. One of the main characters ends up dating a hot blonde that in the real world, wouldn't look at him.
More important, it's funny.
