The Closer is coming to an end on TNT. The last six episodes begin airing on Monday, July 9, at 6 PM (Western).
On August 13, following the finale of The Closer, a spin off series will begin, titled Major Crimes.
There's not a lot of information about which Closer characters will be in the spin off full time. (Well, there may be info, if one has access to tweets, which I do not.) Familiar names are not listed on the seven episodes that were filmed so far. Ten episodes were authorized.
The Closer is wrapping because, after seven years, Kyra Sedgwick, the title character, wants to do other work, and because her children are now grown. Kyra is married to Kevin Bacon.

I'm not enjoying the final episodes of The Closer. At this rate, I won't miss it when it's gone.
A *major* subplot, the federal law suit, which had been building for over a season, was dropped with a one-sentence wrap up. That's too bad. That's the storyline I tuned in to see unfold. A character (not really a subplot) from several seasons ago was revived; Phillip Stroh, the rapist attorney, is back. From previews, we know that he will attack Brenda in her home and try to rape her. Yuck.
Weirder still, the sets were changed. The building they supposedly work in is new (the LA Police got a new building, and so did The Closer). Did they think we wouldn't notice changes to the set? Brenda's office suddenly has *three* interior windows that overlook her squad's area, and a new side door. Those weren't there before. The walls on all the police sets have all been painted new colors; the building set is too new for that. Brenda's kitchen is slightly different, too.
As for Brenda herself, she's angry about the lawsuit that we didn't see happen, and with her, a little of that goes a long way. Brenda being bitchy is not fun to watch.
