I'm a fan of "Spartacus", even though he's cutting that series short by at least two seasons (so yes, he's a dick), but I'm not sure DeKnight was meant to do a show like this. We'll see I guess.
I also think it's odd that they gave J. Michael Straczynski new show so little attention.
Over at io9:A New Space Adventure Show from Buffy’s Steven DeKnight? Hell Yes! Steven DeKnight has wowed us with his work on shows like Buffy, Smallville and Spartacus — and now, he's bringing back interplanetary warfare, with a show for Starz called Incursion. It DOES sound a lot like Starship Troopers, though maybe the aliens won't be as slimy.

DeKnight: I'm one of the few who admit to liking Starship Troopers, so a (rip off) series sounds interesting! But I don't get Starz.
JMS: Oh dear. I love him, but I have zero interest in vampires.

DeKnight: I'm one of the few who admit to liking Starship Troopers, so a (rip off) series sounds interesting! But I don't get Starz. I suspect it will turn up in syndication, or a basic cable station such as SyFy at some point, although that still hasn't happened with "Spartacus" interestingly enough, so it's hard to say. JMS: Oh dear. I love him, but I have zero interest in vampires. I'm selective when it comes to vampires: No "Vampire Diaries" or "Twilight" crap, but I'll accept them in "True Blood", and I'm a big fan of "Forever Knight" ever since the mid-to-late 90s when I finally discovered it at the very end of its second season in syndication. I also liked "Interview with the Vampire". I think that vampire tales done right can make for some interesting as well as great drama. However, I'm not sure JMS is cut out for that kind of writing or that kind of a show. I suspect this one won't last long, but we'll see.
I'm not sure DeKnight's new show will last either necessarily, and I think that enough people honked off by his ending "Spartacus" early might not take to it either. In fact once it premieres they may get downright pissed that he abandoned "Spartacus" for this new series, whatever it turns out to be once it finally hits the air.

DeKnight wrote some of the best episodes of Angel, a show about Vampires. He also wrote some of the most memorable Smallville outings. There are certain writers that bring quality to whatever work they are doing. David Fury springs to mind of Buffy/Angel fame who came onto 24 at its peak, and also wrote arguably the best episode of Lost where Locke is revealed in the wheelchair. Fury joined Fringe last year. People this creative deserve their own shows. JMS has proven he can write for any medium and genre. This is a guy who went from He-man to Murder She Wrote to Babylon 5 and Superman comics, and now is a saught after movie writer. He's also one of the best gurus to get writing advice for.

I'm not fond of vampires and the undead and such in general. Those aren't movies or TV shows I watch. But I love the Resident Evil movies. It's too bad the latest one, Retribution (2012). gets terrible reviews.
