I created this thread to talk about comics in media other than comic books...mainly television and the movies, though the Batman and Superman radio shows, and the 1966 Broadway play about Superman could count. Got the idea from Crambam mentioning that Smallville could have it's own folder. It occurred to me that with the small number of people here, we could probably add the other Super Hero television shows and movies here as well.
Cram, I hope that's good with you.....

And since it was Cram's saying Smallville could get it's own thread.....
I've been watching the show for the past couple of years. I'm almost up to speed, having seen everything I missed on DVD. I've been recording this season's shows, and am up to the one where Jimmy realizes Clark is the "red and blue blur".
Warner recently announced th show will be back for a ninth year. I'm happy about that, but it's time, I think, to wind it up with Clark becoming Superman. That's one of the main reasons I've been watching. My hope is that we'll at least see, in the last scene, Clark, in a suit and tie, during an emergency, walk off camera, pulling his shirt open, revealing the 'S' logo, then fade to black. That's minimum. Better would be to see him fly away in full costume. If there's no costume, at all, in that last scene, I'll feel ripped.

I think Clark should have moved forward the second Jonathan died. It's MORE than past time Clark was in the tights and being Superman. He needs to at least fly now.

I dunno....I think he should start flying right at the end of the series. Maybe in the middle of next season, at the earliest (there will be one more after this). As for tights, that should be in the last episode. The show is about how he becomes Superman, not about Superman. JOR-EL

Jor-El, does your signature quote, "Damn earthquakes," have anything to do with the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve? Lois died in an earthquake, and Superman changed time to save her. If not, what is your quote about? Just curious. Thanks.

In the classic Superman origin, and I believe the orginal serial, the first Reeves movie, and all the TV pilots, Krypton's destruction began with a series of earthquakes. Jor-El had a bad day every time. JOR-EL

The one thing though is that Clark has developed to the point where they need to bring in pretty much every character and event in the Superman mythology, except SUPERMAN.
We've seen Supergirl, Luthor, Lois, Jimmy, Perry, Brainiac, and even Doomsday. DOOMSDAY. If they need this, they need the red and blue.

Given how different this interpretation of Supes has been, I'm not seeing it. I can tell ya that I wasn't happy at all when I learned that Jimmy was going to be roughly Clark's age, and to pre-date him on the Planet staff, no less. I wasn't keen on bringing in Braniac and especially Doomsday so early, either. But it worked out, at least for me. They were good tales. I'm several episodes behind, but I'm enjoying this series more and more. It's one of the very few series I've seen that just keeps improving over time. Maybe that's due to the nature of the show--it's about how Clark gets to the point where he's Superman. Once he becomes Superman, the show's over. JOR-EL

There have always been many constants with Superman--like the fact that he wasn't running around without glasses getting to know everyone who couldn't possibly know his secret.
I realize that many of the ideas they brought in worked. I personally think Lois injected a life into the show that was great. But what does that tell you? They couldn't write for Lana so they needed Lois.
To me, the bringing in of so many Superman things means that they NEED Superman.
One big problem I have with the show is that there is simply not enough of Clark on it.
I can't say that the show has improved with time. I thought the death of Jonathan Kent, and the later removal of Martha Kent hurt the show terribly. It was the shark jumping moment.
Whenever Lana was on screen, the show sucked. I can't think of too many examples where one character hurt a show like that. This season started out very good, and she comes in for an arc, and all the momentum fizzled out like air in a flat tire.
She goes, and things get a little better again.
One big problem is that Clark really HASN'T developed too much, or at least hit a patch where there were several seasons where all he did was pine after Lana and not develop. He should be well past the point where he's accepted his destiny and moved on to becoming a great hero, even if it is under the radar.
The show doesn't have to end with Superman, it could be the next phase.

New Smallville last night.
The rumor going around is that 2 regular characters are going to be killed off. As it stands, logically, Davis and Chloe are the logical choices.
Yeah, Doomsday is technically unkillable, but for purposes of this show, he can certainly go into a long hiatus not to emerge until Clark is Superman for a long time.
As for Chloe, we know from the Legion episode that there is no record of Chloe as part of Clark's life, and that, combined with the fact that Chloe was created for this show, means that her death may be something that can move Clark forward some more.
I'd actually like to see Chloe's death happen right in front of Clark, in such a manner that it somehow triggers his ability to fly.
As for last night's episode, it wasn't the best episode of the year at all, but it was a solid one, as are most of the episodes that feature Lois.
