I'm 51 so it's obvious to one and all that I lost a hero today. I remember the day Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon and I remember being awake at an unusual hour for my age explaining to my grandmother that a man had just set foot on the moon. I will never forget it and I find the state of our current space program very sad. My heart goes out to his family and this country. We have very few real heroes and role models these days, but Neil Armstrong was one of them. RIP, Sir !

When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, I was working and going to college. As a life-long SF fan, I wanted to be an astronaut, but I knew it couldn't happen. I didn't have the aptitude, and women weren't allowed.
Still, I thought that long before now, even I might have set foot on the moon. If not me, certainly others, many of them civilians. I thought there would be a moon tourism industry, even if only for the rich.
As the moon race unfolded, it was thrilling. But as it turned out in the very long run, I'm disappointed that we didn't do more.
