I contemplated whether or not to post this when it was brought to my attention somewhere else earlier today. Initially I wasn't going to because it could have been written better but wasn’t unfortunately, nor do I agree with all of the points in the article opening. I've skimmed through the 15 reasons they give without reading the explanations as yet --perhaps I'll get to that some time later tonight.15 Blunders That Ruined J.J Abrams’ Star Trek And Destroyed The Franchise [/center]

Here's what I wrote and posted to the article page in relation to this piece:
There are a lot of great points in this article, and I agree with a lot of it, but why can’t someone proofread before they publish? Proofreading –-a dead art in today’s world! Oh, and “Colombo” is actually spelled _Columbo_. As a “Columbo” fan, that error, not once, but twice in the same paragraph, was especially egregious and unforgivable.
As I said there, I agree with many of his criticisms about the last film, although a few of his concerns are a bit overstated. He's on solid ground for most of the piece however and what he's deemed fit to criticize, and the writing did improve once he moved on to the fifteen perceived blunders. However, the sloppiness and lack of proofreading an article of that length really irks me and has become all too commonplace where publishing things on the Internet are concerned nowadays, and unfortunately that seems to also detract from some of his criticisms, which for the most part have been otherwise well thought out and considered. So it's a shame, and was totally unnecessary had someone gone through the bother of giving it a good read-through and making those necessary corrections where sloppiness or carelessness prevailed.
His overriding point though about the ability of Orci and Kurtzman stands regardless IMO. They're not great writers, and their script was cheeseball on a variety of fronts and did do serious damage to the brand and its mythology.

The problem is not too many people look at the franchise with that kind of detail.
He didn't even get into the whole reset the universe and Abrams' tease/denial with Shatner thing.
