SPOILERS
Ok, so the pilot aired last night on ABC. In some ways, the show is decent, but I'm not sold on it yet.
The reason I have a problem is that the writers seem to be choosing to make the US government the bad guys, and decided that of all countries, the people of Pakistan are our VICTIMS?
Seriously? We are supposed to be anti-US and pro-Pakistan? The country that hid bin Laden? The country that burns American flags with one hand while taking American aid with the other?

I took it to mean that someone within the government was manipulating events to make it look like Pakistan had attacked them and they were retaliating. It's clear that Bruce Davison's character is quite high up in the ranks and new nothing about the deception. Likely it's shadow government ops and corrupt officials manipulating what's happening.
As for who's good and who's evil in the world, it's all shades of grey. Sayid from Lost was an Iraq military torturer yet one of the most compelling and popular characters.
As long as the writing is good, I don't think it matters about the players -- it's fiction. For all I care Obama could be behind the plot, and if so I'd take my hats off to the writers for having the balls!!!
What impressed me was the acting from the leads and I think it's always a strong start to introduce a world and then throw it in chaos and have characters that you're not sure are going to be good/bad or a bit of both. Again though it's one of those shows that you wonder once they find out the truth, how much longevity and if they get cancelled before they reveal what's truly going on will it feel like a waste?

That's exactly what happened, but the idea is that once again, someone in the US is the bad guy, and the poor defenseless bin Laden hiding, aid taking, America hating Pakistanis are the innocent victims.
Politics does affect things. Look at Avatar.

Politics does affect things. Look at Avatar. I know I haven't said so up to now, but I watched it and the same things irritated me while I was watching, and I later voiced those complaints ito someone in my family who had also watched it when it aired, and had basically the same attitude as Gavin about it. Liberalism is pervasive, and this is what it's done to this country --made it all right for people to think that we're the problem in the world, and for Hollywood writers to espouse such nonsense in what they write.
As for the premise posed by the plot and their taking refuge on that small island, it's a joke. They wouldn't last long, even if the U.S. government had to drop a neutron bomb directly above that area so as to knock out all electronics on that island and in that sub, which would render them totally defenseless. End of show right there.

3 episodes in and definitely the best new show I've watched this season -- very well acted and cast and a great mix of character interplay and action (although still have a few more to check out: Arrow, Vegas and Elementary). It's definitely more watchable than Revolution.

Still not a fan of the whole "poor Pakistan" thing. They should have been more vague, like they were on 24. But the show has improved. I don't know if I would call it the best new show of the season. I actually am starting to like Revolution more. That show grew since the pilot.
Last Resort is ok. I'm sticking with it for now because after the pilot, they have not gone in the anti-America/pro Pakistan direction.

Charlie's attitude (would Gary call it politically correct??) was too annoying. She acts as though she didn't live through 15 years of change, fear, scarcity, and people becoming dangerous.

I'm sticking with my previous assessment that it is the best new series I've seen this fall. The narrative moves at break neck speed and as much as I loved Lost, it did tend to bloat things out a lot. I do look forward to new episodes of Last Resort each week as much as my favourite long running shows.

Interesting. I still like Revolution better. I'm an episode behind on Last Resort right now, so the last one I saw was the one where they were chemically poisoned. I thought it was a bad episode. Bored me. Hoping last night's was better.

I loved last weeks. This weeks is different. Great episode tho. Only watched the first 3 revolution episodes, wasn't that keen, but I have them to go back to. Did you hear they are having a break with Revolution until March?

Incidentally last weeks Last Resort was a tribute to Naked Time from TOS. Did you catch the reference that the drug made them "drunk" and that adrenaline was the cure?

Too bad. But I can see it. NBC would have stuck with it. They tend to stick with shows that they like regardless of the ratings. Frees up another hour.

It's bad news all right, but thanks for keeping us up to date.
I love Last Resort. I hate to see it go. I don't care about 666 Park Avenue though. I watched it because the rest of the family did, but I wasn't interested in it, despite being a fan of Terry O'Quinn.

It's gutting. Shawn Ryan isn't having much luck since The Shield finished. I believe this is his 3rd of 4th new series cancelled after 13 episodes. Last year was The Chicago Code (great show) and something else.

A thirteen-episode run for this show may not be all that bad, all things considered. I never viewed it as having a premise that could have stretched out realistically beyond one season anyway.Looks like 2 dead sci-fi shows will get proper finales after all You're in luck, Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue fans. We're far enough into the new season that freshmen shows are starting to drop like flies, but at least these two recent casualties at ABC will be able to wrap things up with a proper finale.
