I lamented on the article Page their not having gotten their hands on the reviews Siskel and Ebert did of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" back in 1979, which I still remember even after all these years. Ebert actually liked and defended the movie, whereas Siskel was very critical and gave it a pretty hard thumbs down.

Yeah, the reviews from the period before around 1986 are a lot harder to get ahold of. I remember their debate over Insurrection though, which Siskel defended for being about something. I've read Ebert's review of TMP though, which he praises for having the same sense of scope as films like 2001. Which it does. It just wasn't tightly edited.
I would very much like to see TMP on a big screen someday.

I hadn't seen that review of Aliens before, and I'm sure glad I didn't see it before I saw the movie! They showed too much of it, and complained too much. Geesh!
