Okay guys, so here's the deal. I've set up a subreddit over on Reddit. Judging by the lack of a response to my post where I suggested doing it some weeks back, which none of you responded to, apparently there's no interest here in a board/forum over on Reddit, but I did it anyway, even though I don't care for the name. However, some bozo already created one called 'The Neutral Zone', which left me with no choice but to pick something else, so for the time being I chose "The Neutral Zones". It doesn't thrill me and I may go with a different name for the board at some point, but for the time being that's how it is. I understand that some of you are comfortable here and that's fine. But the foot traffic is stymied just as I feared it would be after AOL closed their Message Boards for good. Over on Reddit on the other hand there are a lot of people, not that they'll subscribe to a group they're unaware of, so I'll have to also figure out what to do about that I suppose. But for now I wish to invite you all to drop by over there, even the lurker(s) who just watch but never join in here. There's no reason why we can't have two places to visit, and I wonder why several of the people from the old AOL Rumors & Suppositions board that we all frequented didn't make the jump with us to here. We lost April, Travis and several others, and none of us here know why apparently. Whatever the reason, something about this forum just didn't click for them evidently. At any rate, my Board is simple. I went with a very basic design theme because I'm not at all familiar with the programming language that Reddit uses, known as CSS. And unfortunately I don't see myself having the time to really get acquainted with it any time soon. I could have created a subreddit that was just a bare board like the bonehead who created his own NZ over there, but I took things a step further and went with an actual theme instead. It's plain, but I'd be interested in your impressions of it and how it might be improved also if you feel at all inclined to offer any suggestions. In the meantime, I hope you all come by and visit. I know some of you are checking Reddit pretty regularly despite saying otherwise, because you, like me, are also aware of how news breaks there. Often things appear on their subreddits first before showing up at other mainstream entertainment news sites like Blastr and io9. That's exactly what happened with the Klingon version of the Rick Astley "Rick Roll" song this past week (if you haven't seen that video by the way, you simply must check it out --it's pretty damn hilarious), and with many other stories and fan contributions as well in recent months. Anyway, please visit, and if any of you are interested in becoming a moderator there, please let me know, either here, or through a private message over there on Reddit. Thanks, and Happy Trails to everyone! And CRAM, I sincerely hope you're not in any way offended by this, as that is not my intention. I simply prefer their format over there. It's cleaner and easier to work with generally speaking, and you know I wasn't especially thrilled with the format here going back to the beginning. But I hope to see you there too. Here's the Link:

It does blow. It also means that I won't be able to cover the subreddit during the days until I can get it replaced, which, given my current circumstances, puts me in more of a hole. Life truly sucks.

Today's my Reddit birthday. I went to my board and noticed that there was a piece of cake icon next to my name for every post I made and thought "What the heck is this?". Then when put the mouse pointer over it I saw a message notifying me that I just celebrated four years.
I'm four years old on Reddit.

You post a lot of links to articles. Are you going to post them here, too, or just on Reddit now?

You post a lot of links to articles. Are you going to post them here, too, or just on Reddit now? My phone got stolen on Tuesday, Mel, so for a couple of days I was without access to the Internet for significant parts of the day, which deterred me from doing anything more than posting article links.
As to whether I'll post those articles here too, my inclination is not to for the very simple reason that posting to my Reddit board couldn't be easier, whereas to post articles here is something of a pain in the ass, unless you're just going to post the title of an article and its link. That anyone can do.
Besides, I'm hoping to get some discussion threads going over there on my new board, and posting articles here not only confuses matters in that regard, but also splits the potential dialogue to more than one place.
I'm not looking to kill this forum in favor of my own, however. The reality is that we're just a very small group of just a handful of people, and regardless of the outcome, we should try and stay together.
:::Sigh:::: Damn AOL to Hell.

I'm too old and dumb to know about smart phones. I didn't realize people use them to research and read. I knew about pix, texting, and writing on Facebook accounts and such, but I didn't know you could read an article clearly enough to want to link it for others to read. I'm curious. Do you have a chip or something that stores the info that was on your phone, so you can easily get it on your new one? How does that work? Does the phone work with the cloud?
Well, all I saw at Reddit were links, but maybe that's because of the phone situation.
Yes. Damn AOL to Hell. I would have paid to keep access to those boards.

Do you have a chip or something that stores the info that was on your phone, so you can easily get it on your new one? How does that work? Does the phone work with the cloud? Pretty much all of the newer phones that have Internet capability can do most of the same things you can do with a desktop or laptop computer. As for the phones ...they have a memory card that stores pictures and data and so forth, and you can save those things by linking it to your PC, which I tend not to do, so my photos were lost. There was nothing really important there though, and its the invasion of privacy that bothers me more frankly. My phone wasn't password protected, so they had access to everything that was on there, including text messages and Internet activity and so forth, for at least an hour anyway, until I called my carrier and had them deactivate it. I'm sincerely hoping that the piece of crap who took it has added some bad juju to his karma though. That's not something I would have done to anyone. Well, all I saw at Reddit were links, but maybe that's because of the phone situation. It was, as I said, because I didn't have access to the Internet much of the time, but there's also nothing stopping you or anyone from creating a thread and suggesting a topic for discussion over there, same as is done here. And frankly I see no point in just talking to myself over there on my own board.

Gary posted several new links on Reddit the last few days. I wish he'd post them here. What if you threw a party and no one showed up? How do you think you would feel? And yet your biggest complaint is not that you don't have access to the articles I post, but rather that you're not being provided access to them here instead. Meanwhile, I have to determine whether to bother pursing my own board because of the lack of activity there in spite of already having more subscribers than this forum has managed to accrue over the course of several years. Thanks for the help.

While I like the Trek Reddit and your Neutral Zone, I do have a certain loyalty and affection for this board. After all, we were invited here after AOL "spaced" us. Sometimes I have time to comment in both places and sometimes I don't. Sure I would like to hear from more people, but I find Reddit has a lot of close minded people. I think it may actually be a generational thing. I'm an older guy. I thought I was supposed to be set in my ways and closed minded. The damned kids stole my deal ! ;D

I do pop over from time to time to see what's up, but right now I'm just debating whether I want to join Reddit and have one more website I'm attached to. It's very easy for me to get sucked down internet rabbit holes, and I waste a lot of time as it is on the sites I already frequent. So that's why I haven't posted or replied as yet.

I didn't think of it as a complaint, rather an observation and a preference. If I upset you, I apologize. You're right, I can access them on Reddit, and I did bookmark your site. That's how I noticed the new links there.
Since the AOL boards disappeared (twice!) this is my online ST/SF home. I visit other sites, but don't usually comment. I spend too much time online as it is. Also, some topics on your site, like Walking Dead and Dr. Who, are ones I don't really participate in.
I did enjoy the article about who might take over directing the next ST movie. I liked the UK movie, Attack the Block.

I joined Gary's board to comment about Lawrence Kasdan penning the newest SW episode. I wanted to post about something else, but it told me to wait 8 minutes.

Guys, I find myself at something of a disadvantage over the next couple of weeks. I had to send my cell phone out for Warranty service, and I'll be without a Web-capable phone for about two weeks, nor will I be near my home computer during the days, which means that I won't be able to update my NZ the way I normally would, so if any of you feel at all inclined to post links to breaking stories, I'd appreciate it being that I won't be around to do it myself. If not, that's okay, but I'd like to keep the place moving along with at least some activity so that the small subscriber base that I have will continue to stay tuned. I'm able to monitor the daily, weekly, and monthly traffic that the Page gets, and I do check that activity periodically. If anyone has any additional thoughts or something they'd just like to put out there in relation to it, please do. And by the way, Marc --what exactly do you have against Reddit, or do you post there under a different screen name the way TK and Basil do? Just wondering. You seem to like a good chat, and that's one of the most active places on the Internet as far as message boards and breaking news goes, so why avoid it?

You said you'd be gone for a couple of weeks, so I thought I'd try to help. I just submitted a Blastr link. I was going to submit another about Star Wars, but you had already linked it just one day ago. Maybe you're able to update that board after all, and don't need any help? I dunno. Anyway, I tried to lend a hand.

No, Mel...I said I wouldn't be around until the evenings, 8:00 (EST) or later on those days that I have to fulfill this commitment, since I'm without my phone, which will run into late next week and hopefully not beyond that. This is because I had to send my cell phone in to the manufacturer for Warranty Service, and I just got an update on that situation over the phone. At any rate, I appreciate your help nonetheless, as I just told you there. Of the people here, I really wasn't expecting you to be the one who pitched in, but thank you.

I do post under a different name on TrekCore.

I have nothing against Reddit. Just never really explored it. I do post under a different name on TrekCore. TrekCore or TrekWeb? Or perhaps you post at both? You go by StillKirok over on TrekWeb if I'm not mistaken. I stumbled upon it purely by coincidence last week or the week before when searching for something, although I've forgotten just what it was I was looking for at the time.
In any event though, Reddit is one of the most active places on the Internet these days as far as Message Board Forums go, so you might consider giving it a look. I just wish they would do away with downvoting though, because it's used maliciously and spitefully over there too often, and if they could they'd do it to penalize you for posting a topic as well, but that's the only area in which downvoting is curbed to just one downvote at most so that if you introduce a topic that some people aren't interested in, or if you have a spiteful dick that just wants to downvote you at any given opportunity, that new topic can't go below zero. Messages are another story though.

I do both now. Trekweb is a dying board because the owner of it for some reason, has basically retired, and refuses to let anyone else actually run the thing, despite having opportunities.
The guy who posted all the news didn't want to do it anymore, and he really did all the work, while the owner of the site did nothing.
Without news, it's not much of a site, so the site is now much smaller, not unlike this one.
Many people migrated over to Trekcore, which is a much more active forum.

Without news, it's not much of a site, so the site is now much smaller, not unlike this one. That was actually the Page I stumbled across when I saw your posting a link to this forum. As I said though, I can't remember what I was looking for at the time, but it had nothing to do with you. I just found your choice of a screen name a little odd and amusing though. It fit your Shatner appreciation, which in a way is also why we could use more people like you over in the Reddit "Star Trek" forum, because as Basil will tell you, the kids over there in their teens and twenties can be damn annoying. They actually rate Voyager ahead of TOS in polls if you can believe that, and I have at times taken them on and gotten into arguments with them over their stupidity, and it feels good to vent there after a while of seeing crap like that over and over from the likes of them. Basil usually doesn't bother and lets them have their way, but I get really disgusted by the way TOS tends to be frowned upon there and is looked at as something of a bastard child, even though it's what started it all. Reddit tends to be a young crowd --younger than us, although people in my age group are the second largest group there, so even though we're outnumbered, we're still relevant ourselves and can be a force to be reckoned with if we banded together and put out minds to it. I have no idea what the activity is like at TrekCore. I dropped by there yesterday but didn't see a link to the boards, and wasn't of a mind to stick around and hunt for it just then, but I'm willing to bet that the Reddit Forum has a lot more activity by comparison. At least give it a look and see what you think. www.reddit.com/r/startrek/

Easiest way to deal with the boards over there is to go to www.theomegasector.comI honestly don't remember the origin of the StillKirok name. I may have joined one forum, maybe as Kirok, and then got banned and rejoined as StillKirok. Not sure. I took over the Trekweb account from a buddy of mine when I was having trouble registering and he didn't care. Long time ago.

So I went to create an account yesterday just for the hell of it --not that I would make it a practice of posting there mind you because I'm pretty hooked on Reddit and their Trek Forum, but couldn't set up an account there nonetheless because I got the following message: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Error Occurred Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. [#10123] The administrator is currently not accepting new membership registrations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So either there is a technical problem with the site, or as it states at the bottom, the administrator there really isn't accepting new members presently.
