Ron Moore at the time was far less bashed than Berman and Braga and was generally considered one of the good guys. He actually used to post on the AOL boards now and then during the DS9 days. He has definitely taken heat for killing Kirk, though. For me, the biggest problem with him is sometimes he'll write a "yeah, but what if this happens?" story that has unnecessary repercussions ("What if Kirk dies?" "What if Wesley hates the Academy?"). He also took flack during BSG for things like changing characters' genders and for awhile it seemed like he couldn't write anything that was his own; he was constantly retooling other people's properties. I found he got really smug during the BSG days, lambasting Trek at times, biting the hand that fed him, but then making all the same mistakes (or different worse ones) on BSG. I didn't think M:I-2 was very good, but how much of that is Braga and Moore and how much of that is the direction I can't really say. So I still think he was a better Trek writer than some of the bigger MT offenders, but I think he's gotten kind of pompous in his later years and I don't think BSG deserved all the praise it got. That being said, I am glad that Outlander is finally becoming a reality, and it's nice to see Helix exist if only because it's more of an original concept and not just someone else's work. I hope Moore's learned his lessons. -TK

Thanks for the recap, TK.
I didn't visit the DS9 boards often. When the show first began, I liked it. Even if I hadn't, I had planned to watch out of ST loyalty. But I stopped watching after season two (IIRC, that's when others began to rave about it). A few months later, I stumbled upon Babylon 5's last episode of season one, Chrysalis, and I was hooked.
I had forgotten about Berman and Braga. I just noticed that Braga was an executive producer (and perhaps a writer) on a short-lived program I loved, FlashForward.
As for BSG, given my memory, at first I drew a blank when you mentioned changing genders, then I remembered Starbuck. I thought Katee Sackoff did an excellent job!

Btw, I'm watching Helix. I think it's interesting.
