At Netflix, I happened upon a movie called Escape Plan (2013) starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I'm okay with Sly; I'm glad he has the Expendables franchise, since I love seeing the action stars, and the movies are fun. But I adore Ahnold, and he was especially good in this movie. I don't want to give anything away.
I never saw an ad for it. How could a movie have these great action stars, such an enjoyable plot, and such lousy marketing?
Sly was brave to allow the camera to show how much shorter he is than Schwarzenegger, and how much older he looks than him, too. Sly is only a year older. He shows a lot more mileage. I assume it's not just cosmetic surgery differences, since they can both afford it.

It came and went pretty quickly, probably during a time when a lot of stuff was coming out, so it got pushed out by a big tentpole movie. -TK

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I loved every minute of it, and so did my family. It was such fun seeing classic action heroes in new roles.

As big a fan of both actors as I am, I didn't miss this movie in the theater, and it really wasn't a bad movie either.
It didn't kick ass like it could have, but it was good for what it was.
The actors made the movie better than it was because of who they are.
What I'm really excited for is the next Terminator film, which is rumored to have some Back to the Future II type stuff that will have time travel into the events of earlier films.
Given what they did with having a 1984 style Ah-nold in the last one, it will really be interesting to see what happens now that Ah-nold is back in the fold.

I hadn't heard about Terminator: Genesis. It's about to start filming, and it's projected to be released in 2015.
Alan Taylor is the current director. He did Thor: The Dark World, which I haven't seen yet. From what I've read, the project has changed directors and writers many times already. Hopefully, that's not a bad omen.
Apparently, T:G is going to be a complete reboot. The movie will have characters Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, and John Connor, with Arnold portraying the original Terminator.
I have no idea how they will pull off a much older Ahnold as the original Terminator, but if he wants the role, I'm glad he has it. It worked work for Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy, who is two years younger than Ahnold. Maybe it can make work for Arnold, too.

Did you see the last Terminator movie?
I'm not sure if this is going to happen, but I have some vague memory, maybe a deleted scene from one of the later movies, where Arnold was a scientist who used himself as a facial model for the T-800.
Not sure I read that somewhere or saw a deleted scene. They certainly can incorporate him that way.
They could always pull a Star Trek, and reboot within the canon. Given the nature of the story, it wouldn't be as bad if they wipe the slate clean, and given that time travel is always a part of that franchise, it actually makes sense.
The only thing I know about this new movie besides Arnold being in it, is that somehow, it's going to delve back into the other movies, which could bring in a new dimension to the story. Like I said, it was compared to BTTF II.
If you saw the last one, the highlight was a CGI cameo of 1984 Ah-nold as the Terminator. It was amazing. It was so good, I don't think we're that far off from seeing the original cast of Star Trek as they were in the 1960s playing their roles.

You didn't like " Terminator: Salvation" though, as I distinctly recall, even though I thought it was decent. I guess you're just giving them props for that climactic scene, which was pretty cool, but I think they are still quite a ways off from being able to bring back dead or ageing actors as their younger selves, which "Tron Legacy", which Mel also mentioned, also demonstrated. Clu was by no means a picture perfect version of Jeff Bridges back when he made the first "Tron" film, and the scene with Arnold in "Terminator: Salvation", although pretty awesome, was clipped in such a way so as to use his image to an almost minimal degree. I liked the scene nonetheless though.

It's been awhile, and I haven't seen the movie since the theater, so I barely remember it. I would defer to my initial opinion though I'm not sure if it was written here or on the old AOL boards.
The best scene in that movie was definitely the 1984 Ah-nold scene, not only because it was a great homage to the first film, but because the technology required to make that happen was incredible. And now that it's a few years later, who knows what they can do.
You're probably right of course about doing that with actors, but if that scene was any indication, it may be possible. Imagine never having to recast iconic roles.
Star Trek could have the original actors playing them forever, and the best part is, they played the roles so long that they could set the stories in any era to account for their ages.

My wife and I watched Escape Plan yesterday. A perfect Saturday Afternoon flick. Thanks again, Mel for reminding me about this one. I saw it at Redbox when I was picking up something I had reserved and might have forgotten about it. The movie was not what I expected at all. This is one of the best Post-Prime movies either of these guys have made.
