Has anyone happened to stumble upon this one by accident at some point, as I just did this week? No, but it's interesting to see a place primarily dedicated to scale models. The last Trek model I did was the Rio Grande. I don't really do it anymore (was never too good at it). And there's a Scotsman over there who goes by TK! -TK

I have to delve into the place a bit more when I can find some time. I haven't even scratched the surface over there as yet. I'm wondering if I should join/register. Looks like a pretty decent Forum.

The only other forum I've started posting on regularly is TrekCore, specifically, The Omega Sector. It kind of keeps the Trekweb community alive, but with more people.

The last time that site came up here I had told you -- I tried to register, but couldn't. It was either an error message that wasn't being addressed by the Administrators there, or perhaps more likely, they had changed the settings so that new people couldn't join up, because I remember that being what the site indicated when I tried to register repeatedly.

If you have to do so, email the the admins. I think they may have had an issue with spam that messed registering up.

Maybe not, but they may let you in. New users pop up all the time, so it should work.

I just thought I would take a moment to opine about my Reddit experience. I joined several months ago and have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I belong to threads for Trek, Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes. All of these forums have one thing in common. The majority of the members are younger than me, (I'm 52) and seldom acknowledge that any of these subjects existed before 2005. Trek: Mostly Abrams and an obsession with DS9 that I don't entirely understand. Doctor Who: The newer seasons 2005 + appear to be the only ones that exist and the obsession with Sonic Screwdrivers would make Freud chuckle. Sherlock Holmes: Only the Moffat show Sherlock and CBS's Elementary have active threads. Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone and even the author himself , Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, pale before the Mighty Moffat. The whole points and up or down voting is utterly juvenile. People ask what Trek or Who episodes they should skip. I have flatly refused to do this since I don't want to tell anyone what to like or not like. TOS is too old. You're a Nazi if you don't utterly adore DS9 and you must despise Voyager. If it wasn't so amusing the whole experience would be sad. The few shining lights: We convinced a despondent 17 year old girl to stop cutting herself. I helped a fan find the name of a Starship Farragut episode he wanted to see again. The gal from England who sent a picture of the Tom Baker scarf she was knitting for her Mum, was cute as a button. That's it for now.

The gal from England who sent a picture of the Tom Baker scarf she was knitting for her Mum, was cute as a button. That's it for now. I gave up on the Doctor Who and Galifrey subreddits months ago over there once I noticed that the moderators had a post-pulling obsession when it came to new article links. For instance, if you posted a link to an article from a genre news site that picked up a story a day, or two or three after some other entertainment news site had reported on the same story, moderators there --and one in particular especially-- had a compulsion to yank the newer story link and delete your post. And it made no real difference if the news story that was originally reported on had scrolled five forum Pages back in either of those subreddits (I know --I checked and did end up having to scroll back that far on at least one occassion), as far as the dick moderators there were concerned, they were justified. The final straw for me in the "Doctor Who" subreddit in particular was when the assholes began downvoting me below zero, and I forget over what, but take my word for it, it was over something ridiculously stupid, but once I was down to -25 in points, which then hinders your ability to post anything new, I said fuck that place and it was Goodbye, and I haven't been back there since. I don't need that kind of aggravation if I'm looking to have a little fun by posting a few messages. Nobody does. Nor will I go back there. Even if there's big news for that show, I'll report it to my subreddit and the SF subreddits, but the hell with those DW groups there as far as I'm concerned. As for the Trek subreddit --I find it to be more of a mixed bag. There are young people and some older people as well, and even some of the younger fans there love TOS. They are the exceptions there though of course, not the general rule. However, if you were to check my posts as recently as yesterday and today, you'll see that I got involved in a thread wherein I was trying to set some people straight about the original series and why it should be more appreciated there. The best was when one asshole posted a reply to me saying that my emphasis on the importance of a good script and good writing was incredibly arrogant on my part, as though how dare I be so bold as to make such an assertion (can you believe it?) and that my attitude was therefore *disgusting*. Yes, so disgusting of me to think that the script plays such a crucial part of a production. Truthfully, it can be disheartening hanging out there, but there are people who feel like us about the shows, and which Is the best. They're in a minority there though, and I see them getting pretty disgusted too at times, which is one of the reasons I don't just abandon the place myself I suppose. But I don't agree with you that the place is populated primarily by Abrams fanatics. A lot of the people there are also critical of the Abrams films too. And you might consider checking out the *Daystrom Institute* subreddit. Someone was trying to lure me over there just yesterday, claiming that it's a better environment and that the quality of discussions there are just better overall. Here's the link if you're interested: www.reddit.com/r/daystrominstitute

Hopefully. It's a good forum once you get registered. Well, he created my account early yesterday morning, and I signed in for the first time last night just to change my password, but I haven't posted anything as yet. However, I did notice that under your Profile, where you get to choose your favorite Trek film, that it only goes up to "Insurrection". The last two Abrams films aren't even included among those choices. I guess that's consistent with what you told me about the guy who created the site not caring anymore, and therefore not upgrading or updating anything anymore, yet someone clearly has some control over there because apparently anyone who wants to join has to go through the Admins the way I did, and they should be clearer about that when newbies try to register, since all I was getting was an error massage. Clearly they had some problems with mischief-makers for them to go that route, but still, let people know who they need to email in order to join.

I think we're getting sites confused. The guy who created a site that doesn't care is on Trekweb, not OmegaSector.
Most of the regular posters on Trekweb bolted and went there.

Then how come TrekCore hasn't added ST09 and "Into Darkness" to the list of Trek movies members can choose as their favorite under their Profile? Do the Admins over there have something against the Abrams movies, or are they just lazy?

I have no idea. Never noticed that feature before.
Interesting thing--got in a little trouble over there yesterday. The writer was talking about having a villain in the next movie that thinks he's morally right. The discussion came to that we've been promised that before, and how in the last bunch of movies, we've always had a villain that was mustache twirling evil.
So I came up with what I think is a pretty good way to honor the 50th, and accomplish the goal of an antagonist that isn't necessarily wrong.
It would also tie into the 50th quite well.
Suppose Spock Prime wakes up one day and realizes that Abrams and Orci doing interviews in the real world is not canon, and that he realizes that it's his duty as the only surviving member of the original timeline to restore it.
Or, if Nimoy is unavailable due to health and/or lack of desire, get the Temporal Police, or even Picard and crew involved.
Come up with a reason that they were immune from the temporal changes if Spock Prime is not there.
Even Q.
Despite what Abrams tries to spew, the original timeline is gone because that's just how time travel works. So the plot would involve Spock Prime trying to restore the original timeline, and Kirk and crew not wanting their existences shattered.
The audience won't necessarily have a right side because both sides would be right.
As long as a) Spock Prime doesn't cross any lines and actually BE a villain, and b) in the end, they find a way to save both universes, the audience wins.
Of course, what caused the trouble was the old, "Abrams said the prime universe exists despite no evidence to the contrary."
I proceeded to shoot down every counter argument because the evidence doesn't support the off camera Abrams interview.
The moderator, who started that whole debate in response to my comment, eventually asked me to stop responding, despite the fact that I didn't start it in the first place.

What about IDIC? Shouldn't that allow people to enjoy shows that you may not care for?
That said, I don't see how they could enjoy Voyager. Janeway ruined the series.

There's just something very disconcerting about someone who claims to have been a fan of the original series first and foremost, only to then go on and begin gushing about how good "Voyager" and "Enterprise" supposedly are ...and the responses by a lot of the others who chimed in there were no better, if not actually worse. It's time like that which make me feel that subreddit is just hopeless.

They're not wrong that there are some episodes of merit in both Voyager and Enterprise, but the series on the whole were exercises in wasted potential. There are a lot of ideas on Voyager I appreciate, and there are episodes that are really good. But neither series comes close to TOS or DS9 for enjoyability, writing, or storytelling. Some of that is studio interference, but a large part of it is the writing staff.
I wouldn't say Voyager is the worst show ever made or anything. And I'd honestly probably rather watch Voyager than Firefly or something like that. But on the whole, I'd say more of the worst Trek episodes ever turn up in Voyager and Enterprise and they are just lesser series than the others. Every now and then there's an episode like "Death Wish" or a good Borg episode, but even with the Borg they did it to death until they weren't threatening or interesting anymore.
Nothing wrong with pointing out the good parts, but to keep things in perspective, overall the good bits just amount to turd-polishing. It's a shame, but that's the way it is. TNG's looking really dated these days, but it's still better than Voyager. There's stuff I like about it, but to argue it's equal to or greater than TOS is foolishness. Same goes for ENT (and I actually prefer season 3 on the whole over season 4).
