Anyone here a big fan of this show? I'm talking the original, not the lame 1990s version or what I consider the worst movie of the 21st century.
I think this is a show you need to watch as a kid. While the stories were quite intelligent and the format was outstanding, the effects were not good by TODAY's standards and the acting would certainly be better if cast today.
But I do feel the scripts were strong, and the stories hold up very well.
It's not a surprise given that David Gerrold essentially created the show and employed real sci-fi writers (many from TOS) to do the scripts.
Unlike most TV shows, LOTL didn't talk down to kids. Even as a 5 year old, I was able to follow continuity.
I loved the show enough that I could say that I know more about it than I do Star Trek.
Definitely one of my top 3 shows of all time.
Curious if anyone has the show on DVD.

Curious if anyone has the show on DVD. I used to watch it as a kid when it was still in production and airing on Saturday mornings. However, I'm older than you, and we're talking early 70s, and while I remember things about it, I can't say I remember it well enough to actually engage in a detailed discussion about it. Also, while I sometimes enjoyed it, and sometimes hated it, depending on the episode, I only viewed it as a Saturday morning kids show to boot.
And yes, the special effects are terrible by today's standards especially, but it's not as though nothing could be done to rectify that in this day and age. Hell, a fan could do it on the cheap and produce better effects than what was available back then, and could probably pull off a lot of it with no money at all.
But that would take a very dedicated fan of the series obviously.

I know I saw an episode or two in rerun as a kid, but I don't remember where or when.
The library where I work has the whole series, so maybe I'll check it out at some point.
