I have noticed this little easter egg for years now and made a connection well before the article here did in 2013, they use music from Aliens, another film by 20th Century Fox to avoid licensing issues with Paramount Pictures... "Blonde uber-baddie Karl at the finale looks like ‘Star Trek’s Khan from the end of ‘Star Trek II’ (1982), which is kind of weird as the music playing is taken from ‘Aliens’, which was composed by James Horner, who also scored… ‘Star Trek II’!" - See more at: www.filmchronicles.com/die-hard/#sthash.nYpMlcCN.dpuf

That was a fun article. I couldn't tell who wrote the article, but maybe I missed it. I looked at the site's main page. An article about how blockbuster movies have changed from 1993 to 2013 is very interesting. It mentioned Interstellar, a SF movie coming out later this year. Looks good! Again, I didn't see who wrote the article.

He's listed at the top left, Tony Scudder, Walking and talking movies since the 70's, he also mentions Lens Flares in Die Hard at the end of his article.
