As much as I hate remakes I had to see Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark because it's based on one of the coolest Made-for-TV horror flicks of all time starring Jim Hutton and Kim Darby. While the new film is based on the same basic story it tells the tale through the eyes of a little girl instead of a mentally unbalanced housewife (Kim Darby in the original). I'm happy to say this is why the new film works. If you think of it as a sequel to the original you will enjoy it. If you have not seen the original film, you will want to do so after checking this one out. The CGI creatures are well done, but I must admit I still prefer the low-tech monsters of the 1973 story. All in all this was definitely worth a trip to my local Redbox.

I haven't seen this yet. I added it to my Netflix list. Yes, I'm old school. I still watch DVDs, not DLs.
