I know Star Trek became more popular in the 70s, but I was curious, did those syndicated episodes generally air daily or weekly?
Also, for anyone who remembers, did the popularity increase happen after TAS ended?

My recollection is that, on weeknights, I tried to be home by 6:00 PM, to eat dinner while watching TOS. This was before VCRs. At some point, the show wasn't on nightly. It switched to Friday nights. I made a point of being home for that. My life got easier when VCRs became affordable.
I'm not sure if the show became more popular after TAS ended. For me, after ten years of waiting, ST:TMP (1979) was a disappointment. But it must have increased the popularity of the show, and helped create the franchise.

I lived on the South Shore of Massachusetts at the time so my TV got both Boston and Providence stations. Some channels ran Trek on weeknights and some ran it on Saturday afternoon. It really took off in sydnication. I am just old enough to remember when it aired on NBC,but I was not really old enough to follow it. I did not become a fan until the early 70's.

Also, for anyone who remembers, did the popularity increase happen after TAS ended? I've lived in New York my entire life and watched it as a kid in syndication. It aired here Monday through Friday at 6:00 PM. TAS wasn't popular and wasn't around long in any event, and didn't hurt or help the popularity of the original live action series. Nationally, the original series was being shown weekdays because that was how it was sold to syndicated stations that acquired it for airing on their stations. It wasn't until much later, during the 80s, that the original series was being aired exclusively on weekends, or at least, that's the way it was here in NY as I recall. |
