Are any of you watching "The Last Ship"?
If so, what did you think of the Commander's decision to leave the ship when they reached Guantanamo? Did it remind you of Kirk in Trek at all?

Heard about it, but didn't see it. Any good? It's pretty average so far. Not great, not terrible, with your typical PC Crap sprinkled in here and there for good measure, but in what's supposed to be a naval military setting. Some of the other scenes that are written in also tend to be corny, but those tend to pass quickly so you have just enough time to scoff at them and they're either over or nearly over. Check out the Pilot Free On Demand, or on Netflix if they make current shows available on their Service, and see what you think of it.

I'll look into it, though it didn't really get me excited. I'm running around a lot in the summer. My big project is getting through Breaking Bad.

We watched it, and we're taping the series. At it began, I was reminded of something you guys sometimes say about shows I like: "Well, I can see it running for a season, but no longer." It made me wonder if this one will only last one season.
I didn't want the captain to leave the ship. I didn't want the female scientist who's trying to find a cure to leave the ship either. As for the guys were were tasked with getting the equipment she needed, I wanted them to get the stuff out of Gitmo and GET BACK to the ship.
When they were all back aboard, her assistant told someone (the XO? the Captain?) that a piece of equipment needed calibrating, and because of that the ship couldn't leave for hours, which was untrue. I wanted the captain -- or someone -- to verify that with the female scientist.
Her assistant is the traitor in contact with Russia, or an offshoot of Russia. Regardless of who it is, I don't know why they're hellbent on getting the cure NOW. It doesn't even exist yet.
Nice to see an older Eric Dane (I know him from watching Charmed with my niece, not Grey's Anatomy) and Adam Baldwin (Independence Day, Firefly, Serenity, and others).

I haven't started yet, but I just found out that Adam Baldwin is in it. That's enough to get me to give it a try. I just hope the pilot is still on demand.

Well, I just checked, and my carrier has it available until 7/20. If you're in Manhattan, you have a different provider, but it should still be available, and probably until that same date, which I'd imagine is the standard Free On Demand licensing agreement for most if not at all carriers.

There were 4 episodes on demand as of yesterday. I'm 2 episodes in. I like the show enough to keep watching once I catch up.

I'm all caught up. I think this crew is very good. Even though it takes place on the sea, it does have a vibe that could easily be a Star Trek crew. I guess that's because Starfleet is similar to a navy.
The cast is very good, and the captain is one of the best captains portrayed on screen in a long time.

SPOILERS
I agree. I was especially touched by the episode where several crewman wanted off the ship, due to health concerns, and because their terms of service had expired. For me, when they decided to re-enlist, it was a very moving scene.
When I like a show, sometimes people here say, "Well, I can see it lasting a season, but no longer." What about this one? To me, things seem to be moving at too a quick pace, since they've found someone who is naturally immune.

We shall see how it goes. I actually do think that the show could shift from finding the cure to mass producing and administrating it. Ultimately, there are only so many stories you can tell, and while this one scientist is a genius, it's hard to believe she's not the only one who can cure this thing.
With humanity on the line, the geniuses of the world would unite.
