Conversation at work turned to Battlestar Galactica the other day and I realized I had never finished Caprica. My Galactica blog has sat abandoned for four years, and I figured now was as good a time as any to finish the series. I also plan to watch Blood and Chrome, and then do a proper rewatch of BSG (with movies in their chronological place). I'm halfway through Caprica now and it's kind of a mess. I can see why I abandoned it after a couple episodes. Anyone interested can read my thoughts over at Frack Galactica. I remember there being some discussion of Caprica years ago. Any of you viewers think the show was worth it? -TK

I remember thinking none of the characters were good people. So there was no one to root for.

I remember thinking none of the characters were good people. So there was no one to root for. After finishing the series, which was kind of a mess, I agree. It's fine to have characters be flawed, or complex, but everyone on the show was evil or crazy. This is something Breaking Bad did much better. The only one who wasn't really was Lacy, but then she stayed with the terrorists for reasons I've never understood. Eric Stolz did a good job with Graystone, who I could at least sympathize with some of the time, but the series was a lot of extremes that the show didn't always earn. It was for the best that it only lasted one season. Blood and Chrome was actually pretty good though, for what it was. -TK

You would think a society so advanced it could master interstellar travel would figure out that smoking is bad.

You would think a society so advanced it could master interstellar travel would figure out that smoking is bad. Well, they probably know it's bad and just don't care. We know smoking is bad, but people still smoke. It's also lazy short-hand for "these people are flawed! They have the same vices we do!" But then, this is a universe full of bad decisions. if the Cylons wanted to wipe out humanity, why not just nuke the sun instead of the individual cololonies? It'd wipe out the whole system! But then, we were never clear what the Cylons wanted anyway. -TK

I didn't feel it was such a terrible show, although the central characters really weren't especially likeable as people for the most part. The show had some things going for it though, but one of the things I resent about it now in retrospect is that it was really one of the first shows to start shoving gay themes in our face as something we should accept, aside from how we felt about some of those characters otherwise. "Torchwood" was far worse in that regard though.
