I wasn't sure where to put this video because I didn't see a spot for fan films that aren't Star Trek related, so here's as good a place as any. This is about as good as a video of this type can get. It was exciting, true to character, and in the end, I think the result was right:

It was exciting, true to character, and in the end, I think the result was right: Whenever there's a "Batman vs..." scenario, he is usually going to lose because he's just a guy in a suit. In a straight saber duel, he probably could win since Vader is more machine than man and all that, but throw in the Force, and there's really no contest. -TK

I'm posting this to my sub on Reddit.

It was amazing.
Vader is no slouch with a lightsaber, and should absolutely be an equal to Batman, if not better.
I thought the video was a great way displaying how such a fight would go.
The main issues I had were the setup.
First, I don't think Vader could stop Superman.
The power of the Force is strong, but I don't believe even the Emperor would be strong enough to crush Superman. He's too physically tough, and Vader couldn't contain him or even beat him in a fair fight, Force or otherwise.
Meanwhile, Batman, who clearly from this video had enough intel to know what Vader is all about, would not have taken this fight.
Logically, this is a two person attack. One person would have to take on Vader, and the other would free Superman.
Batman, if he was even there, would free Superman because no chance he could beat Vader.
The right person to take on Vader is the Green Lantern, whose power ring is more powerful than a light saber, and would be able to stand up to any attack from the Force.
Eventually, it's about will power, and no one is stronger in that department than Hal.

The right person to take on Vader is the Green Lantern, whose power ring is more powerful than a light saber, and would be able to stand up to any attack from the Force. Vader is still a severely injured older man. He's good with a lightsaber, but not GREAT. If Batman trained beforehand, he could take Vader in a saber fight, but Vader would hold his own for awhile. Young Anakin in his prime? Probably an equal to Batman or could take him. But Vader? Remember that Luke in Jedi was able to best Vader in a saber fight. Vader only really got the drop on Luke in Empire because Luke was mostly untrained, and because he used the Force against him. So without the Force, even if they were evenly matched, I think Batman could very possibly beat Vader in a pure lightsaber duel. As far as Superman goes, that all depends on whether or not we classify the Force as "magic". If the Force is magic, then it can overpower Superman. But if we don't consider it magic, Superman probably could still win, but it would make for a much fairer fight. As far as Green Lantern goes, Vader would just have to construct a yellow lightsaber. -TK

The Force isn't magic at all. If anything, the prequels showed that it's actually an energy field that some people are genetically able to use.
Vader was badly injured, but his power in the Force was still quite strong. And ultimately, he took Batman down WITH the Force, not with the saber.
Batman DID hold his own against Vader in the duel, though in theory, Vader should have been much faster than Batman, able to anticipate every move because of the Force.
Was Vader really trying to kill Luke in Jedi--his own son?
The light side of the Force was dim, but Vader had a soft spot for Luke, and while I won't say he took a dive, he didn't want to kill his son.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I need to ask it. I thought Superman derives his power because he's on Earth, which is so different from Krypton. Would Superman automatically have great powers on other planets? Do they have to be very Earth-like? Just curious.

Would Superman automatically have great powers on other planets? Do they have to be very Earth-like? Just curious. That is a very good point. The explanation for Superman's powers have varied a little over the years. His Kryptonian physiology is supposedly "more evolved" than humans, so he's like the ultimate specimen which means he probably would be a little stronger regardless. Then there's the fact that Earth has different gravitation. But the main reason given nowadays is Earth's yellow sun, which differs from Krypton's red sun. So I think we'd have to assume that in a system without a yellow sun, Superman could be significantly effected, and its quite possible that he'd be weaker on the Death Star, depending on where it was located. We really have no way of knowing how he'd fare in a galaxy far far away. -TK

It also seems that most of the systems with life have yellow suns, so Superman is usually pretty good, unless of course he ends up in a system similar to Krypton, with a red sun.

It would be unlikely for intelligent life to develop so late in a system with a red sun. As with us, it developed over millions of years in a solar system with a young sun, which means that the Kryptonians must have been a very ancient race that only evolved to a point and then stopped. If that were the case, then it would make sense that most systems containing intelligent life would have yellow suns, and that Superman would be okay for the most part throughout the galaxy. Whether he came from somewhere in the Andromeda Galaxy or the Milky Way is another matter, however, since various writers have toyed with the idea of both.

How the hell did you even track that down there? Did it come up via a Google search by chance, or did you do a search there? I just find it interesting since it's the site I pointed out here a couple of weeks ago.

Just a quick google search. "How far is Krypton from Earth?"

Thanks, TK. I appreciate the thoughtful answer.
Back in the day, I *loved* the B&W series, The Adventures of Superman. I've seen the Christopher Reeve movies, and I loved the first couple. I also loved Lois and Clark.
I didn't know that things have changed, or become more defined over time, so that Superman might be considered an ultimate future human specimen, or that our yellow sun gives him his power.

Just a quick google search. "How far is Krypton from Earth?" Interesting. As I had said, I anticipated that site being useful in more than one sense.

Here's a new version of the video, with an alternate ending. What I like is that it addresses some of the issues I had before, namely, how Vader could actually capture Superman.

I guess it doesn't really matter. Neither are official canon, and I think both work.
I think they did a good job explaining how Superman could be captured, and while the idea that the Justice League had more important matters than to rescue Superman, the new version took on some of the flaws of the first one.

I was just being facetious actually, given that it's not canon of course, though it might be interesting to hear the producers' take as to which one they prefer. I think they did a good job explaining how Superman could be captured, and while the idea that the Justice League had more important matters than to rescue Superman, the new version took on some of the flaws of the first one. I wonder if they were working on this one as well at the time they released that first video, or if it occurred to them later and they did some additional shooting in order to revise it. Oh, and Marc ...as much as I appreciate your handling of that other situation the other day, which I thought you dealt with remarkably well, I also don't think it's unreasonable to consider the very real possibility that once again the whole thing was just one big put-on. Been wondering the last few days if I should have put off mentioning it until after Friday, but I'm here posting at the moment, and figured I might as well put it out there now.

I'm guessing they filmed both endings so that they had them depending on how their debates and discussions went. But I do think they added the opening Star Wars like scrawl based on comments.
The idea that Vader could capture Superman made no sense, and neither did the idea that Batman would try to take on Vader alone.
As for the other thing, I'd be curious as to your thoughts in private email, but I figure I left it up long enough, and it's now time to delete that thread.
