I'm not the biggest Mad Max fan. I think I may like the first one best, and don't think too much of the second (though to be fair I only saw it once a long time ago and barely remember it). But I just got back from Fury Road and for those who are into that sort of thing it's really fabulous. It's just as outlandish and insane as prior Max sequels (maybe moreso), but in a good way. Miller has lost none of his talent. Quite simply, this movie has some of the best car chase/stunt/action scenes I have ever seen in a movie. Makes some of the classics look quaint.
It's not a movie that everyone's going to be into, as it throws you into a pretty extreme universe and never lets up, but it is very well-made.

And that's even if I can get out to see a movie this weekend.

I'm not a huge Mad Max fan either, but I liked the fact that this is just a "new" Mad Max movie with another actor taking over, rather than just a remake of one of the Max films. I think Tom Hardy is a good choice and I will at least rent this. I wish more franchises just picked up where a series left off with new actors the way it was done in the 30's and 40's. You had different Charlie Chans, Saint's , Falcons etc and you made totally new stories. That is the smart way to go.

Hmmm ...I'm torn now between seeing this or "Ex Machina". And that's even if I can get out to see a movie this weekend. Ex Machina was good too. It's slow, and kind of creepy, engaging in an intelligent way. I thought the end was a bit much (which I won't spoil). Oscar Isaacs is really good in it. You really can't go wrong either way. I guess it just depends on whether you want slam-bang action or a thinking film this weekend. And Ex Machina has boobs, if that helps sway you. (There's boobs in Mad Max too, but not for long). Actually, there's full frontal nudity in Ex Machina. -TK
