Finally saw The Martian and its very good. If you're into the space program, definitely get out and see it. It was pretty convincing, and more science accurate than Gravity.
I'm still left thinking the idea of manned Mars missions is stupid precusely because of the dangers involved, but the film was good.

I just finished reading the book, which was very very good. Apparently, Andy Weir self-published and offered it for free. Many people clamored for a Kindle version, which he did. The minimum he could charge for a copy was 99 cents. And it became one of Amazon's best-selling ebooks. Movie producers and publishing houses contacted him about putting out a real book, and a movie based on it. What a wonderful self-made success story!
To be honest, I'm meh about Matt Damon (I only really like him in The Talented Mr. Ripley), so I can wait for the DVD -- or the download -- if we're set up for that by then. I'm about to buy our second flat screen TV (but still no Blu-Ray). Yes, really!

I noticed that Rotten Tomatoes raves about The Martian. It looks like it will continue to play in our area this week. I'm in the mood for a movie, and I may go to that.
