I'm also recommending this movie for anyone here who hasn't yet seen it. :::Ahem:::'Alien' (1979) R 1h 57min It too is free to stream, but on IMDB TV, which is also available through Prime. The only catch on this one is that it is free to stream with ads, but I would still say don't let that stop you from watching it because it is likely uncut despite the ads, and hopefully there aren't too many of those. It's a very different film compared to James Cameron's sequel "Aliens." This one is more horror and claustrophobic. I still don't know how someone can consider himself a sci-fi fan and yet go over forty years without ever having seen this movie. It boggles my mind in a way. This is a landmark film. Anyway, just putting it out there, not that anyone will actually listen.

Every Halloween I try to do a horror franchise marathon. This past year I did Alien. The film still holds up, as does the sequel. (Alien3 is a mess but still has some good bits). A shame Resurrection is do terrible.
But Alien and Aliens are a great double feature.

I love Alien and Aliens. Great films, both of them.
After all these decades, I still dislike A3. The feel-good ending of Aliens was destroyed; Kyle and Newt burned to death. Later in the film, Ripley was almost raped. Charles Dance was wasted in his role. As for special effects, A3 used an extraordinary amount of blood.
IMO, the movie was ugly all around, with none of the tension and levity that played off each other in the first two. I love the music in the first two. I don't recall a note of A3.

A shame Resurrection is do terrible. But Alien and Aliens are a great double feature. Yeah, I don't understand why CRAM started with the second one, or that he didn't like it even though it was a James Cameron film. It's possible his not having started out with the first film put him on a bad footing, and he didn't 'get' what the whole thing was about as a result. This isn't a perfect analogy, but since we've been talking about the Apes films recently, if I had started out with the second film first it would probably ruin everything for me had I never seen the original film because the sequel wasn't as good (which is why this isn't a great comparison, because Cameron's sequel to Ridley Scott's original film wasn't a mediocre follow-up; it was in fact very competent, albeit with a different tone and pacing). At any rate, I just learned that the first movie in this series will also be available on Prime at the beginning of next month, which means no commercial interruptions like on IMDB TV. Here's what's coming to Prime Video and IMDb TV in JulyI don't know why they didn't just do that in the first place. I may watch it again myself come July.

A shame Resurrection is do terrible. I love that idea, a horror franchise marathon for Halloween. I have slightly less than two days left to fit it in! Yes they are. I've seen both over 100 times at least; I can't say that about any other movie. For me, neither one gets old; they're always fresh, highly watchable, and entertaining in every way. I love every minute.
