Please tel me that this trailer is a joke. Why does Hollywood have to ruin classic stuff? I thought this movie had potential, but I was wrong.

Interesting. I never watched Dark Shadows, so I have no clue what it's about. I know it had a few versions of it, but that's about it.
I saw the trailer as a complete newbie, and liked it.

Yeah, I was very surprised that they went so campy with it. On one hand, it bears a certain resemblance to Beetlejuice, but on the other, Burton maybe needs to keep himself away from so much kooky humor. While it often works for TV shows rebooted as movies, I don't think that the ONLY way to adapt a show is to do it tongue-in-cheek. For something like The Brady Bunch, yes. But even though Dark Shadows is a little silly, its gothic feeling could be maintained.
I never watched it either, but this interpretation seems wrong. Especially since Twilight has made vampires a hot property right now, and doing it more straight would have done just fine.

I think it totally depends on the show. At some point, you can't change the genre too much.
You can't take a drama, turn it into a comedy, and expect people to like it.
You can't take a sci-fi show, turn it into a comedy, and expect people to like it.
And most of all, you can't get Will Ferrell involved.

Well, the trailer isn't what I was expecting, but the movie probably appeals to a broader ($) audience this way. Too bad. I was looking forward to a creepy movie.
My recollection is that Jonathan Frid, who originated the role on TV, was sexy. I don't see anything sexy about Depp in this role, and that's disappointing. Watching the trailer, when I saw Depp as Barnabas, I flashed on Killer Clowns from Outer Space. That's not a good association.
That said, I think it's interesting that Johnny Depp is seven years older than Jonathan Frid was when he began the role, yet Depp looks much younger than Frid.
