So we have a new Kirk. Paul Wesley.
It will be interesting because this time he is playing Kirk Prime.
The Pike series is something I am actually looking forward to watching, but of course the woke writers may screw with that. It must be killing them to have a straight white male as a lead.
Guessing Kirk will appear in the finale and lead to a season 2 story.
The only issue right now that I have is that Wesley is 39, at a point where Kirk should be in his mid to late 20s. He is older than Shatner when Shatner got the role, and he is about where Kirk would be in a hypothetical season 4 of TOS.
I guess where there is a Kirk Prime, there is always hope of reversing Generations.
It's been done not only in the Shatner books, but in another book called Crucible Kirk, which I thoroughly enjoyed

So we have a new Kirk. Paul Wesley. Umm, yeah ...I won't be watching. I can't support what they're doing. I also had to laugh, while simultaneously getting annoyed and experiencing a sense of revulsion last week when I saw that Stacy Abrams had been cast in a cameo as the President of Earth and the Federation. It made me sick, and I was glad I had stopped following the show a couple of years ago. Why anyone would bother with this current iteration of Trek shows is beyond me. They're woke and disgusting, and it's as though they really do want to stick their fingers in the eyes of traditional Americans that loved the original series and the later shows that followed it, TNG as well, or why else would they have made such a mockery of Picard? Please, I can't be bothered. Life is just too short. It saddens me, but it also sickens me. I wanted to give 'Strange New Worlds' a chance even though it's being produced by the same gang, but when I saw several months back that the show will also include a non binary character as part of the crew, I ruled out watching it right there. And how can anyone say with a straight face that this is the Prime universe? Really? Are you kidding? In what way? Were there non binary individuals running around on Kirk's ship? No, of course there weren't. It would have been out of place and ridiculous. In TOS you had a show produced by the WW II generation, many of whom had served during wartime. Now, in contrast, you have the crew that gave us the bizarre recruitment video for military service that was released not long after this current administration assumed power. Is there any comparison between those two generations that can be made whatsoever? No, of course not. For what it's worth, not that I care obviously, but for those who do, Kirk will not be a regular in this new show. Yes, they should have gotten a younger actor, but if he can pass for considerably younger than he is and only appears in a few episodes here and there, it probably won't matter much. But if it proves to be a hit with the meager audience this show will have and they decide to do another spinoff with the original characters, then there will be a problem. By the way, Shatner turned 91 on Tuesday. God bless him, and may he have many more still to come.

Well, I do understand your point. I'm probably not going to bother with the last season of Discovery. Eventually, I will get to Picard and SNW, but the Abrams thing, combined with literally not having any straight white males in the 29th century or whatever century they are in, is a bit of a turn off.

I just don't understand why the feel the need to drag Kirk into this and upstage Pike. Let Pike have his own show.

I just don't understand why the feel the need to drag Kirk into this and upstage Pike. Let Pike have his own show. Are you a subscriber? To me personally, it doesn't really matter. I like Anson Mount, and he may make a decent Pike, but I don't like what's happened to entertainment, and especially this franchise. I liked the first three episodes of "1883" (which were shown on the Paramount network) and would have liked to see more of it, but subscribing would have had me contributing to their Trek shows as well, and I refuse to support that nonsense. I won't watch Disney+ either, so the current 'Star Wars' shows are out unfortunately. It's okay to cancel Gina Carano (who never really mattered one way or the other to me frankly), but not Pedro Pascal. Okay, well if that's the kind of game they think they're going to play and that they can get away with it I'm out. It may not matter a whole lot to them in the grand scheme of things, and I do wish more people would bow out when shit like that occurs, but they're not getting another penny from me one way or the other regardless.

I get your stand, and there's nothing wrong with it. But the Star Wars TV on Disney is so much better than the movies. I've decided that I am done with Discovery. I'm going to wait a couple of more weeks for Picard to show a few more episodes. Then I may check it out. I also have not watched 1883 yet, though I saw the first few as well and liked it. Yellowstone is great.

I'm not subscribed to Paramount+. I don't watch any new Trek stuff when it airs anymore; I wait for the DVD. I bought but haven't watched Picard or season 3 of Disco and only saw the premier of Lower Decks. I'm not paying a service for something I mostly don't care about anymore.
I was in a 2 year deal with Disney+ and am renewed for the year so I'm keeping it at least for now. Recent nonsense does give me pause and I have to consider more about the boycott. In the '90s I though the Evangelical Disney boycott was overblown. But now they are actively targeting children's programming with a clearly stated agenda and this troubles me. Unfortunately, canceling the service won't really make a drop on the bucket and the company is sort of too big to feel it. Still, I haven't watched any new Star Wars content since Mando season 2.
I am not generally into protest and boycott, but I've already decided I'm not going to see Lightyear since they added the lesbian kiss just to spite Florida. I was already on the fence, and I've kind of hated everything Pixar has put out in the last couple years, but that sort of sealed it. If they care so much about representation, how about just once they make a Christian character who isn't a villain or a lapsed conflicted Catholic. There's a large American population that they are ignoring in favor of representing literally less than 5% of the population as if it were 50%.
In other news, I was just banned from the Daystrom Institute subreddit for saying I didn't like the queerification of Discovery. In a thread that literally asked, "What do you think about the queerness of Discovery?" I said I thought it kind of breaks canon for humanity when you consider Crusher's final speech in "The Host", as least as far as the superprogressive "pansexual" sort of idea goes. Well, i was immediately called a bigot and banned and when I contested it the mod basically again called me a bigot because I dared post in conservative subreddit and suggested I just delete my account. He then muted me from being able to contact the mods. Gotta love those Leftists who are so sure they're right that they have to silence all dissent!

That's one of the reasons I reactivated this board. I realize we don't get much traffic, but this board is a place where you can express some very normal and obvious feelings without being branded a bigot. I also have been banned on Trek boards for being conservative. Liberal posters were allowed to attack and complain and bitch, but when I defended myself, I was banned while they were not, and often, these attacks came from moderators. The brainwashing is awful.
The thing is, I don't care what liberals think of me. I tend to turn it around and call them out on their own bigotry and sexism, which is obvious.

Paul Wesley looks good as Kirk, believable. But as Cram noted, he's too old for the timeline they're casting him for. Why did they go with someone who's almost forty-years old?
As TrekBeat said, it's about Pike, so, yeah, let Pike be Pike.
I like the idea of Rebecca Romijn as Number One. Dare I hope that her real life husband, Jerry O'Connell, can get an occasional role on the show? Jerry is the voice for Commander Jack Ransom on Lower Decks, and no, I haven't seen it. I've been following Jerry's career since Sliders.
I hate paying for streaming because -- either there's not much to watch -- or there are great things to watch, but at my age, I forget about them, meaning I don't watch, and then I pay for channels for nothing. <sigh> Such is old age.

I tend to rotate now. Netflix is too expensive for what you get, so I wait until something is there that I watch, and get a month. Right now, that's Ozark and Cobra Kai. There are many options now, so I go with what I want.
Jerry O'Connell is a fun actor. Sometimes an actor just tends to be in a lot of things I enjoy, and he's one of those guys.
I saw they cast a Nurse Chapel on this Pike show. I thought it would have been interesting to have Romijn do double duty. Maybe make them related.
I do like the idea of Kirk on the show as they transition from Pike to Kirk. We know it takes place after the events of The Cage, but we don't really know how far before Kirk.
If Kirk is true to character, it would be very interesting. I wouldn't mind a young Kirk show, though not sure I trust these writers.

My brother Terry and I love the show and are looking forward to the next season, whenever that is.

Season 4 is all that there is right now. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a release date soon, but I don't expect it for several months. When they drop the episodes, I will resubscribe. I'm also going to pay for a month when the final Ozark episodes come back. Just finish that off.

Conservative apathy and people on the right just sitting on their hands and doing nothing because "they're busy working" and more concerned with "just living their lives and going about their business" is also what's landed is here. Notice how the left has pushed and pushed and are never satisfied with their agendas, and always push for more and more, in part because it's their nature and they can't help themselves, but also because the right sent them the signal time and time again that it was perfectly okay to keep doing that because they would never take a stand to try and stop them. So they keep pushing, as our side keeps sitting on their hands. Well, Nope. Can't do that anymore. That's why we're losing the country, as they and their backward agendas keep making strides and winning. Not anymore. People can't afford to do that anymore. And if they don't wake the hell up, and now, they're going to find themselves in a country they don't recognize and don't want to live in. He then muted me from being able to contact the mods. Gotta love those Leftists who are so sure they're right that they have to silence all dissent!<< Oh, I caught on to this crap many years ago in the Trek proper subreddit. One of the mods there was one of the early schmucks to push this totalitarian garbage, and as a result, I walked. There were a few incidents where he would attempt to get me to alter my approach (in other words, get me to modify how I chose to express myself), and the absolute last straw was when he banned me for three days or a week for calling an obvious troll a Nance. The troll apparently saw it as his job to harass and harangue people that he didn't care to share the sub with out of the place by any means necessary, and I called him a Nance after he leveled an accusation at me that I was likely gay. So notice how it worked: The troll accuses me of being gay, I respond by calling him a Nance, and I get temporarily banned for using "a gay slur", to quote the mod. Meanwhile, the troll that accused me of being gay in the first place wasn't banned at all. Right there, at that moment, I decided they could all go and fuck themselves in that sub, and I had no intention of wasting my time ever visiting that place again. And I haven't, nor have I missed it. Meanwhile, they call us Nazis, when they're the real Nazis, and let's look at what's happened to the Trek franchise and where it's gone since. An accident? No, not at all. That's what these vermin are all about: ideological, political agendas, and they demand conformity. And if you don't conform, they'll try to character assassinate and cancel you out. It was literally all taking place in the Trek subreddit over there on Reddit before they went Big! and took the movement national. The Reddit Trek sub was a microcosm of what was coming. All of that is a long way of getting to my point and summing up what happened to you in the Daystrom subreddit, which is, they did you a favor. Who wants to be bothered with a bunch of jerks like them? Only other jerks that think the same way, and we don't need them because they're nothing but a bunch of assholes when you get right down to it. Thugs. Brown shirts. Totalitarian swine. So fuck them. You're better off. Believe me, you are.
