So I was doing a little channel surfing over the weekend, and one of the stations I went by was the Trek Channel on PlutoTV, expecting to see a TNG episode airing. Instead it turned out to be a season 2 episode of 'Star Trek: Picard'. No, I didn't watch it, but what's up with that? I know they finished season 3 on P+, but if they're broadcasting these episodes for free on PlutoTV, already, are these shows truly successful, or abysmal failures in which they need to recoup whatever cash they can as soon as they can because the franchise is a massive drain on their accounting department's balance sheets?
In other news, JMS has an announcement coming in less than two weeks about a special secret B5 project involving members of the surviving cast. That ought to be interesting, but it's too bad that's another series you never bothered to get into, Marc, same as with 'The Expanse' unfortunately. You should have stuck with the latter a while longer rather than bailing out so early. I wasn't sold on that show either during its first season or so.
Whatever...you don't get into these other shows, and I have no interest in present day Trek anymore unfortunately.
Wokeness has ruined every fucking thing it's set its grubby mitts on.

I get that, and as we are different people, of course we are going to have different interests. That's fine.
And I loathe wokeness as much as you do. I am surprised that Picard Season 2 is airing on another channel. But I wouldn't recommend that to you.
Picard Season 3, for the most part is TNG season 8. The wokeness was toned down dramatically. It was barely there. It was written in a way that I didn't think could happen today. I respect that you don't want to watch, but I figured that as someone who has very similar Star Trek views to you, and as someone who has been equally or more critical of Star Trek as you, the fact that I actually liked something might make you pause.
I loathe wokeness. I loathe people who defend it with the smug comment of "define woke." I love when I give them a definition of woke they can't counter with anything more than a "ha ha" emoji.

Not necessarily. Sometimes Pluto has been running special new Trek episodes for a limited time. I remember when Lower Decks premiered, they ran the first episode on Pluto for a weekend. So they may have just been trying to drum up interest in Picard. I have yet to watch season 3. Am in no rush and was waiting to see if it fell off a cliff at the end, as the previous seasons did. Season 2 was awful. I'd say just as awful as season 1 but in different ways. Season 1 was excessively R-rated and depressing. Season 2 was less that, though they did some ridiculous retcons that I hated and none of it wrapped up successfully. New Trek writers so far have had no idea how to write season arcs. But season 3 has good press so I'll check it out when the DVD drops.

Season 3 of Picard absolutely did not fall off a cliff at the end. The first season was pretty bad. The second season was bad, but not quite as bad. The third season was very good. I wish the Rick Berman era was written with that level of love and care. Star Trek would be much different today if that were the case. The last time a season of Star Trek was written with that level of care was Season 4 of Enterprise, but those writers were stuck with Seasons 1-3. If you sprinkle sugar on shit, it's still shit. But Season 3 of Picard was essentially season 8 of TNG, but better than Season 7. It sets up the next show, but in fairness, with the exception of the teaser for the next show, the crew of the next show doesn't really interest me at all.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I read other reviews of S1 & S2 and I'll give season two a pass (that's what's on as of this date). I look forward to watching Season 3.

I think you do need Season 1 of Picard. Without it, there is a major plot point that you will be clueless about from season 3. Not sure about Season 2 since I only watched it once, but it had some good moments, including a very surprising, funny and unexpected cameo.

Ah, so I need season one. I'm not sure it's on Pluto; a search didn't really say. And I've already missed about four episodes of season two. Do you know where they might be airing? Thanks.
