I'm not a fan of Fan Series', but I know CRAM tends to like them, so what the hell. Over at TrekNews.netChris Doohan Cast as Scotty in New Star Trek Fan Series Chris Doohan, son of Star Trek's original Montgomery Scott, James Doohan, has been cast as Scotty in the upcoming fan series, Star Trek Continues. Additionally, Grant Imahara from Discovery Channel's Mythbusters has been cast as Hikaru Sulu. Produced by Farragut Films, the company behind the Starship Farragut web series, Star Trek Continues will also star Vic Mignogna as Captain Kirk, Todd Haberkorn as Mr. Spock, Chuck Huber as Doctor McCoy, Kim Sti [...] www.treknews.net/2012/03/27/chris-doohan-scotty-star-trek-continues/Posted by TrekNews on March 27, 2012 | Fan Films, News

Funny you bring this up. There is some SERIOUS drama going on with a few of these series' right now.
If you go over to Trekmovie.com, and scroll down to the story covering Chris Doohan's casting as Scotty, you'll find that there is a major feud going on--too much to describe here, but it gets going around comment #29.
Basically, this Farragut group allegedly stole sets from another group. Additionally, and separately, this group also allegedly has the only copy of Phase 2's latest episode, and because of that, they have to reshoot it. It's more detailed than that, but it makes for a fun read if you don't care but like to see strangers fight.
From my point of view, I don't care. Just show me the finished product.

Through all the drama I found out something interesting.
Did you guys know that George Takei starred in a fan film that was made between Treks III and IV?
It never saw the light of day due to fighting.
It may still come out.

I decided to boycott that site after that incident wherein the fat porcine slob who owns and runs it allowed the groupies there to attack me personally, viciously, and continually, said nothing whatsoever about them or any of their comments, and had the gall to suspend me for a week once I finally started responding to all of their crap in kind, which was more than warranted at that point. And all so he could stay in Roberto Orci's good graces because I had dared to challenge him and the groupies over the fact that the last movie simply did not make clear that a multiverse scenario was (supposedly) at work in it. So I won't even waste my time visiting the place to see what articles are being posted there. That jerk and his website simply aren't worth my bother.

I do tend to lean toward Trekweb for similar reasons. I've also been banned multiple times for challenging Abrams, both on the Shatner issue and the multiverse issue.
I rarely post now, but I do read it, and I really did find this story interesting. It spilled over from a thread on the TrekBBS, which was also linked in the comments of that Trekmovie article.

Yeah, the only problem with just reading the articles posted on that site (I have no idea if you read the posted messages also, although I'd guess you do somewhat) is that being a patron of that site to any extent whatsoever puts money in the fat pig's pocket and helps him to finance his propaganda Page, so I stopped visiting it at all after the incident I mentioned. I do find it a bit amusing that you, I and Bob have all been suspended there though by that gluttonous A-hole. He and the groupies really can't stand hearing opposing points of view.

I know. It's worse than AOL when AOL had heavy handed moderators and I was getting posts removed left and right for insulting BRAGA.

VERY INTERESTING:
This is a comment from one of the Phase 2 people, on the reasons that Shatner and Nimoy wouldn't appear on their stuff.
<<Secondly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, people should remember that part of the “Spinrad script gets pulled by CBS” drama that spilled over to Phase II is that Mr. Spinrad was pushing rather loudly, aggressively and everywhere he could that he wanted Shatner to guest star in the episode: and, yes, it was “followed up” on. CBS likes fanfilms because they keep the franchise going between the stuff that makes them money. In my opinion (I can not reveal the conversations that took place between I and anyone “official” regarding Shatner guest starring in HWAU), they are NOT going to tolerate a fan film getting press and attention because Shatner is a guest star: it would bury the press about JJ’s movie. I remember several years ago, before JJ Trek was a glimmer in anyone’s eyes, (with diff people in play at CBS than are currently there) we were firmly warned off from pursuing a deal with Tom Cruise for the same reason. It would just get us too much press to be comfortable for the franchise owners.
So fans should assume that Shatner and Nimoy haven’t been in ANY fan film not because things aren’t happening they don’t know about, but merely for the reason that CBS won’t tolerate it. Personally, I don’t see that changing – not while JJ Trek is still a viable product.>>
