It took a month for my house to sell, which is great, given the market. We have three weeks to get out! I didn't notice that date at the time; I assumed it was the usual month. Guess he wants to be settled before Thanksgiving.
We're moving to Texas. I've seen some homes I like online (all of them are empty; owners already moved out) but my realtor said to see them in person before making an offer. I was hoping to close before we got there. I'm looking for one with two master bedrooms, or two large bedrooms, plus one or two others. There aren't many of those to begin with.

Good luck. Not sure which state you are moving from, but at least there are good tax advantages to being in Texas.

We moved from Washington state, after 20 years of loving it. God, I love a real winter! I'll miss that. The homes I wanted to see were all sold by the time we arrived in Texas. I wasn't finding others I like. Luckily, two of them fell out of escrow. I looked at both, and a few new ones, and chose one that fell out of escrow. It's a lovely smaller home, just 4 years old. Quite a change from the three story 45 year old home I moved from! It's 1700 square feet, with 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, and a covered porch (I couldn't see me using a Texas backyard without one). It's just what we need, and nothing more. I like that. As you may recall, my family has three handicapped members, all developmentally disabled: My brother, his wife, and their 28 year old daughter. I'm in my 70's. When I keel over, my niece and her husband, and extended family, will take care of them. Thank God.

Real world indeed, this folder!
Where I moved from in WA, the utilities, insurance, food, and such were affordable. More than affordable, even. Our electricity bill -- for a 3,300 SF home -- was $90 a month (we only used two floors). That's because we lived near a river with two dams, and the power it generated reduced our bills. Each month, leftover electricity was sold to other cities, and that further reduced our bill.
Here, every bill is two to three times more what we paid in WA, groceries included. Had I known this, we would have moved into a smaller home in WA, rather than move my relatives closer to the relative who will take over when I keel over. I thought it might be nice to spend time together before I'm gone. Expensive idea!
I've never asked about monthly expenses before moving somewhere new, like from CA (and various cities there) to WA, and WA to TX. Do the rest of you consider that when moving? Maybe I've been both stupid and lucky, until now, in that regard.
