I would think a lot would not want to give Prodigy a try. It's 40 episodes, and on the surface, a group of alien kids on a starfleet ship would not work.
But by the time you get past the first 10 episodes, you're seeing a lot of good stories that are filled with Star Trek lore, and while I have about 5 episodes to go, the second season has been nothing short of very good Star Trek.
It's not woke. It's not political. It's just good stories, many of which involve time travel and legacy characters from TNG to Voyager. They actually did things that the Voyager writers couldn't, like make Janeway look like a decent leader.
I recommend it.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked season 1 of Prodigy overall. A few missteps but it's good introductory Star Trek that also respects what came before. Like Lower Decks, it wants to remind you of the good stuff, not the Disco garbage. I'm only halfway through season 2 right now. I'm liking it, though I didn't like Wesley's appearance. While the one sweater joke was funny, Wil just doesn't know how to play Wesley anymore. He's just playing a manic version of himself. And I like Wesley Crusher a lot more than I like present-day insufferable Wil Wheaton. But how much of that was Will and how much was the writing, I don't know. I do think there's one tiny woke element, and that's that I noticed they started using they/them pronouns for Zero, which annoyed me because I thought the voice made clear the character was female. I'm actually about to rewatch "Is There in Truth No Beauty" in my TOS rewatch, so I can check, but aren't Medusans gendered? But it's DEFINITELY not as woke as DISCO or even SNW (which I ultimately kinda don't like). Did you like the Kobayashi Maru episode? I thought they did a nice job reusing old audio and honoring the actors who had passed.

I think Wil played Wesley like he was The Doctor. I didn't even notice the pronouns, but yeah, that would qualify. I don't know if they got into genders on TOS with Medusans.
Was the Kobayashi Maru the one with the TOS and TNG actors from Season 1? If so, yes.

Was the Kobayashi Maru the one with the TOS and TNG actors from Season 1? If so, yes. I watched again, and the Medusans are never gendered on TOS. In fact, they seem to go out of their way not to, as if Medusans definitely are neither male nor female. They always refer to the ambassador by name, and the only pronouns used are "you" or "us". So on the one hand, that's canon, but of course part of why that works is that he didn't speak. Through Spock he even marvels that they use language. So why is it Zero can speak? How is this accomplished? Is it just through the metal containment suit? And then watching "The Outcast", it is strongly implied that Starfleet does not use a third person neutral personal pronoun. Riker is confused that can't use he or she, and is put off by saying "it". Soren then says the J'naii's neutral pronoun "has no translation", so it's clear that Starfleet is NOT going around calling people "they/them", no matter what nuTrek wants to say. So I would honestly rather they have just called Zero by name and avoided the pronoun issue altogether, but at the same time it's not so completely noncanonical since apparently the Medusans are not gendered. That being said, that they used a female voice makes me VERY annoyed that they seemed to get a little homoerotic with Zero and the Vulcan girl. I think it most bothers me because it's a kids' show and the media desperately want to "re-educate" children in gender nonsense and pansexuality. But it's also so background that it will probably go past most kids anyway, so that's something. Wouldn't surprise me though if it was a mandate from Nickelodeon, the network that put gay pride parades in Blues Clues and had Transformers talking about being nonbinary.

It really sucks that these deranged people are in charge of all things entertainment.
