I posted my own response to this on the article Page, for what it's worth.
Over at Blastr:George Takei says don't expect any more Star Trek: TOS cameosWhen Star Trek was released in 2009, the storyline featured two Spocks; The one from the new alternate timeline, played by Zachary Quinto, and the original "Prime Spock," played by none other than the great Leonard Nimoy himself. Truth be told, it was pretty darn awesome. And now we all want a bit more of the same, right?blastr.com/2012/04/george-takei-all-the-next.php

I saw your comments.
My feelings are that I will take any original actor role I can, because I still want to see Kirk Prime.
I would prefer a separate project though, even animated.

I'd rather not see Shatner in an Abrams Trek movie. J.J. has already bastardized the franchise and what was done by the original cast enough without having to resort to sticking Shatner in one of his films so as to legitimize his creative choices.

The thing is, whether we like it or not, the Abrams movies are canon.
There is no way they can convince me that the prime universe still exists, unless they prove it within canon. ST11 did NOT accomplish that, and comics are not canon.
While I would love a separate TV movie/miniseries, that's unlikely despite the money it could make.
