Over at io9:Why Star Trek’s Vision of the Future is Out of Date I definitely take issue with some of it. The statement that a rise in genetically superior people is unlikely to lead to the deaths of millions is myopic. There is all kinds of genocide throughout our history, especially modern history, and it often has some kind of genetic component. I can absolutely believe in the possibility that there COULD be a war. Wonder what this writer would have said about the possibility of World War II back at the turn of the last century. -TK

I read the piece late last night and that aspect of it struck me as rather shortsighted and naive on the part of the author as well, although he does have a point that various forms of genetic manipulation appear inevitable, and that its being banned in the manner that it was in DS9 was taking it to an extreme, and was perhaps more than just a bit unrealistic given what's already on the horizon.
