Hi,
Does anyone know when new episodes of Doctor Who will air on the Sci-fi channel? It's been a long time. I noticed they will air one of the specials (with the tenth doctor) on BBC America but I don't have that channel. Is Sci-fi even going to continue showing the next series with the 11th doctor? If so when? Thanks Oh this is my first post here so, HI everyone ;D

I just read that Amy and Rory are finally exiting Doctor Who. While I like both companions, and think that Amy is one tasty dish, I think it's time for them to move on. My only real complaint with the newer Doctor Who seasons is that they put too much emphasis on the companions.

Hard for me to judge, since I never watched Classic Doctor Who. But I always liked the companions. Amy and Rory worked very well. I'm hoping they don't die as part of their exit. They just move on, like Martha Jones did.
Of course, with the 50th anniversary coming up, you would have to think that they come back for a small stint.
What will be interesting will be what they do with the 50th. I think anything short of a modern multi-doctor story will be considered a huge disappointment.
Personally, I'm hoping it's more than a one shot 2 hour event. I would actually like to see a full 13 episode season arc involving multi doctors, where the Doctor is paired with past incarnations and then there's a finale involving all of them.
Plenty of ways that can happen. Paul McGann and David Tennant can come back at any time, with aging irrelevant.
But I always thought it might be interesting if when a time lord regenerates, it only APPEARS as if the old incarnation dies. That maybe, while the new incarnation has all the memories and his life continues, the old incarnation goes somewhere else--some other dimension perhaps, and his life goes on in some way. That could certainly account for bringing back older doctors.

Rumour has it this next series will feature the return of Madame Pompadour from David Tennant's first year. Either that or the actress is appearing in another role -- the actress and Moffat have been exchanging cryptic tweets about her return lately. There's also strong rumours about the return of John Simm as the Master. None of which have been substantiated.

Oh and don't count on Amy returning after she leaves. Karen Gillan was quite clear she wanted an exit with finality and was against reappearing every so often. Moffat has said on numerous occasions its a heart breaking exit so they aren't just going to be trotting off in the sunset. Whether that means one of them or both of them dies, I don't know.
I too will be disappointed if it's not a multi-Doctor story. At the very least David Tennant should come back. If it's just him, I'll be happy, but if its more even better!

I still say the entire season should be dedicated to multidoctor stories. With 13 episodes, each dealing with more than one Doctor, and then a finale that somehow involves all of them.

That would actually make sense, given the connection to Stephen Moffat.

I have also read that Karen Gillen does not want to return after her initial exit. I respect her decision. As far as the 13th Anniversary goes, I doubt Smith will get his wish and get all the surviving Doctors to appear. Christopher Eccleston seems to have major issues with the BBC and one of my favorite Doctors, Peter Davison, has expressed his doubts about reprising his role after the charity one-off "Timecrash". Oh, heck , I have to say it. Only time will tell.

Expressing doubts doesn't mean no interest.
It would be a real shame if Ecclesston holds to that promise. He was so good in the role.
One thing the new Who hit a big homerun on was casting the Doctor.

Interesting. It's hard to rank them, but gun to head, for me it would be Tennant, Smith, Eccleston, though I bet that might be different had Eccleston had a long run. They were all really good.
What I really like about the show is that they respect the main canon. It's all one history and the show was designed to change lead actors. Brilliant.

I don't consider the current series a different show, just 4 later seasons. They have respected canon and so does Big Finish Productions which has been producing Audio Doctor Who stories with the previous doctors for years. If you have never tried them I think you will be in for a treat. I'm amused that they use what ever theme music was current when their doctor was on the series.

I agree with that. One canon. That's another cool part of Doctor Who given that it's 49 years old.
But that said, the new series is the PERFECT jumping in point.

I just read that Ben Browder (Farscape/SG!) is going to be in an episode next season. I used to love Farscape, but I must confess that the last season or so lost me. Ben's a good actor though and my wife finds him easy on the eye. She will be watching.

Excited for Ben Browder on Who. You're right the final season of Farscape dipped in quality. I even read an interview with Rockne O'Bannon the creator who said he felt it suffered in its final year and the best episodes were the ones set on earth. It seems that Exec Producer and day to day showrunner David Kemper was in LA in the final year and wasn't in Australia much to quality control. I think there were some really good episodes in season 4, but generally it was pretty messy. The largest mistake was making Scorpius care about destroying a bunch of flowers more than his obsession over wormholes.

I was a huge Farscape plan. I don't recall too many American actors being used on Doctor Who. I think the most recent exception was when they did episodes in America last year.
We got some big Farscape fans on this board, so if you want to do a Farscape thread, have at it.

She's cute. I approve. I mean, her head is shaped such that she has a kind of Winnie Cooper vibe, but I approve.

I don't think Moffat has ever put a casting foot wrong for any of the shows characters since he started. We don't even know if the character is human this time round. Of course the worse news is that only 6 episodes are airing this year with the remaining 8 (we get 1 extra) for the new year. Hopefully those 8 aren't the 50th anniversary and we'll get an additional bunch of episodes as well which was hinted at the press conference.

I really want that multi-doctor arc for the 50th. I wonder if they could also do a multi-MASTER arc.

Cute?? Easy on the eyes??? She looks like a nun in that picture! In her (few) photos at the imdb.com, though, she is cute. I didn't see Captain America. And I've never heard of the Titanic series she's in.

Multi-master. Interesting. Although I don't think they'd do that. Both the classic actors are dead and there's only been 2 since (Eric Roberts doesn't really count as that wasn't a regeneration, that was a possession).

That's another interesting issue. The 1996 movie IS in continuity.
I wonder if they will ever deal with the ability to possess a human by a time lord. And have they ever dealt with McGann being half human? Why was he half human? Could that have been the result of a bad regeneration, since subsequent doctors were full time lords?

The 1996 TV Movie was outsourced to American writers and producers who didn't quite have a handle on Who history, and arguably what made Doctor Who special. Russell T Davies wrote a joke line in the end of time that got edited out (time issues) in which Tennant's Doctor quipped to Wilfred that he was once half human for a day!

Here's a thought--
McGann is the only doctor, other than whoever is the current doctor, that can regenerate in a multi-doctor story.

While I admit the Fox TV Who movie is pretty craptastic, McGann is a wonderful Doctor. You should check out the audio adventures he has made for Big Finish Productions. He just embraces the role and has an infectious sense of wonder and humor which he never ceases to convey to the audience. I fully support him being in the Anniversary show and I have always accepted him as the 8th Doctor.
