Gee, it sure took him long enough!
And I'm just wondering if I should drop by Trekmovie.com and bust some balls over this given where things left off between me and them.
Over at Digital Spy:Star Trek star 'disappointed' in Abrams LeVar Burton has expressed disappointment in director JJ Abrams's Star Trek film series. Abrams's new Star Trek franchise exists in an alternate reality of the original television series and films, although the appearance by Leonard Nimoy in the 2009 movie ties the universes together. Burton – who played Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation – has now admitted to ET Online that he has problems with Abrams's series. "JJ [Abrams] [is] a very good director, he really is," Burton stressed. "He directed the hell out of the first movie. I'm really interested to see what he wants to talk about in his upcoming movie." The actor continued: "I'm disappointed, quite frankly, that his timeline negates the existence of Next Gen. I think that's silly."Read more: www.digitalspy.com/movies/news/a460676/star-trek-levar-burton-disappointed-in-jj-abramss-movie.html#ixzz2LaIAwhX4Yes, emphasis on that last sentence by yours truly.

Over at io9:Now we know who Peter Weller is playing in Star Trek Into Darkness [/i][/b] [/center] The Star Trek Into Darkness trailers have emphasized massive destruction, including terrorist attacks and crashing starships. But how does all of this fit together? And why haven't we yet glimpsed the mysterious but vital character played by Peter Weller? A ton of footage was shown in Brazil, which gives away a lot of the movie's first act and some stuff that happens later. Read…io9.com/now-we-know-who-peter-weller-is-playing-in-star-trek-in-452404924

What's dumb about that logic is that the secret will be out in the first showing.
It will be unavoidable.

What's dumb about that logic is that the secret will be out in the first showing. It will be unavoidable. True, but they're going to keep people guessing every moment until then. If there's one thing they like to do, it's tease like crazy. But it looks like it's going to be Khan. They've obviously picked an iconic villain of the past, or Lindelof wouldn't have made the comments he did in yesterday's reported on interview. And I doubt it's Gary Mitchell because the cryogenic chambers don't fit, but they're consistent with Khan obviously.

The problem with Khan is how can you not market it?
How dumb is it to NOT take advantage of that and hype Khan up?
And the logic here is just idiotic since we knew a lot about Nero going in since they did a comic on it.
Plus, Khan was never in Starfleet.
For all we know, the villain could be Captain April.

I'm not convinced of it being Khan, though the film does seem to be yet another ripping off TWOK structurally.
If it is Khan, then it makes sense they would try their hardest not to let that information out early at this point. 1) It would mean early internet speculation was correct and would make their secrecy look foolish now unless they keep it up or 2) they know there's a chunk of the fanbase who doesn't want that and will refuse to see the movie because of it. Already there are people who swore "never again" after the last movie. If they keep mum about so much of the film, they're more likely to get fan money opening weekend before they can spread the word. Let's face it: opening weekend is all Hollywood cares about at this point. So once the truth is revealed, that may help or hurt the box office, but after that first week it's less important to the studio.
In other news, they released a new trailer last week, which isn't making me hopeful. It makes Kirk look like even more of a cocky dick playing more for comedy. Jim Kirk is not Han Solo.

It does look like a movie worth seeing, though not sure I would call it true Star Trek.

I disagree that it looks like any film worth seeing, another Enterprise is destroyed by crash landing or otherwise, yawn Also, it's definitely not Star Trek and Khan, thank God! This from a Trekkie who only likes The Original Crew (1966-1991) but did enjoy Star Trek 2009 except for Vulcan's destruction along with Amanda Grayson's death.

Well, I agree, the Enterprise taking damage does nothing for me, but a lot about the movie does look good. I will see it. It's not like last time when I was pissed off.

Wait --Cumberbatch's character was a member of Starfleet? Well, there goes Khan for sure.
And the fact that Orci is chiming in with Lindelof about this doesn't thrill me, since Lindelof ruined "LOST" and "Prometheus".

Gary, thanks for the link.
I wonder when (if?) trailers will be captioned. Except for a few pointed lines, all I heard was the music.

All I can say is, by the end of this movie, I want to see Kirk become Kirk.
Kirk is not someone who thinks he can't fail because he's a cocky kid.
Kirk thinks he can't fail because he's the captain, and captains CAN'T fail period.

I may (or may not) post links to articles like this for you guys over the next three weeks or so, but that doesn't mean I'll read them, or play the clips that are attached. I ignored the article yesterday about Spock "trapped in a volcano" because I figure I'll wait at this point until the movie comes out to see all of it, so unless it's a trailer, I'm not interested. I don't want to see so many scenes from the film in advance of actually sitting down and watching it in a theater.
But hey, that's just me. You people do what you want of course.

We knew this was going to happen once the film was released abroad first (which irks me, because this has become so commonplace nowadays), but you guys are of course free to check this out if you so wish. For the time being, I'm going to try and avoid this Spoiler, for as long as I possibly can before the news gets thrown in my face regardless of whether I want to know the answer in advance of seeing the film for myself or not. (It seems inevitable at this point, especially with three weeks still to go before the sequel hits theaters here in the States) The suspense is over: Cumberbatch is playing [REDACTED] in Trek 2By Trent Moore Thu, 04/25/2013 - 9:17am Early reviews have leaked out, and now we (apparently) know why Benedict Cumberbatch is playing. And I'm just as pissed that the film isn't released here first.

I just posted the following to the article Page also listed below:When it comes to Spock and Uhura, they're obviously missing the mark (not that that's the only area in which they "miss the mark" of course). While it's true that in "The Cage" we see Spock uncharacteristically smile, that was principally because Nimoy hadn't yet grown into the character and still failed to understand him. Spock in the original series was very concerned about keeping emotion in check. To show any sign of it, to him, would have been a sign of weakness and a major character flaw. This is why he was never able to get close to Nurse Chapel in the original series even though she had a bit of a crush on him. Spock prided himself on his Vulcan heritage, which he viewed as more mature and superior to his human heritage, which he openly shunned by comparison. He would not, as a young man, have gotten involved romantically with a human female therefore, especially not one who he instructed at the Academy, because that would have been an ethical breach of protocol besides--something Spock would have frowned on and never would have allowed to occur. This is all illustrative as to why these were not the right people to take on bringing these characters back to the screen. They don't completely understand the original "Star Trek" obviously, and they're more interested in creating a popcorn action movie that's going to be a box office draw, but which is substantively vacant for the most part. Their first movie was a testament to that, if anything.Over at Blastr:Why J.J. Abrams insists: 'Star Trek has to be sexy'By Nathalie Caron Fri, 04/26/2013 - 9:56am J.J.
