Over at Blastr:Cumberbatch as annoyed as we are about Trek 2 baddie mystery With director J.J. Abrams' penchant for secrecy, the mystique around Benedict Cumberbatch's mysterious Star Trek Into Darkness baddie has dominated the headlines—probably garnering more attention than the movie itself. So what does Cumberbatch think of all the wild speculation? MORE: blastr.com/2013/01/cumberbatch-as-annoyed-as.php

Over at Blastr:Benedict Cumberbatch reveals one of his Star Trek Into Darkness lines With all the deep secrecy surrounding Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous John Harrison in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness film, it's been truly frustrating to say the least to know so little about the big bad of the highly anticipated Star Trek sequel. Over at Blastr:Fringe's Jackson was THIS close to playing 2 iconic Trek roles After five seasons as the co-leading man on Fox's Fringe, Joshua Jackson has solidified himself as a star player in J.J. Abrams' stable of actors. But did you know he almost popped up in Abrams' Star Trek reboot first, which is how he got on Abrams' radar to begin with? He comes with too much baggage. He certainly couldn't be Kirk. That would have pissed a LOT of people off. McCoy? Maybe, but thankful that Urban got the role. He was great.

I think he could have been Kirk. I mean, Kirk's arc in ST09 is remarkably similar to Charlie Conway's arc in The Mighty Ducks movies...

Even after all this time, I can't watch him on Fringe without yelling "PAAAACEEEY" in a whiney voice at least once per episode.

Thankfully for me Fringe has purged all memory of him on Dawson's Creek from my mind. Though I didn't watch very much of the Creek anyway. But it's odd because I still associate a lot of other actors with the show, but Joshua Jackson has blurred out of it for me.
Speaking of Dawson, anyone watch "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23"? I like Van Der Beek on there. Playing a goofy version of himself (similar to what NPH did in the Harold and Kumar movies, or Shatner did in Free Enterprise).

I've never seen Joshua Jackson in anything but "Fringe", but I sometimes find myself wondering how Michael Weatherly would have fared in the role of Kirk had he been eight or ten years younger when they were casting for the first film. The guy looks the role more than anyone else I've seen. He'd have been a perfect substitute for young Shatner in the original TV series. Just watch him in NCIS and it's hard not to notice.
I believe he was thinner back when he was in "Dark Angel" though, which I never watched, so who knows.

How does this guy conclude that there's a TOS era Klingon under that helmet? There are even ridges on the forehead of the helmet going all the way up to the top of the head for cryin' out loud.
Over at io9:Here’s the first look at Star Trek 2’s new Klingons (kinda) The cover for IDW's Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness #4 movie prequel comic hit the internet recently, and what was on the cover? None other than the first apparent look at nu-Trek's Klingons. More » io9.com/5977639/heres-the-first-look-at-star-trek-2s-new-klingons-kinda

This is also old news, since they looked like that in the deleted scene from the first movie.
I was kinda hoping they wouldn't stick with that design. It makes them look like Klingon Darth Vaders.

This is also old news, since they looked like that in the deleted scene from the first movie. -TK Yeah, I believe so, except that most people didn't see those scenes.
And were there ridges on the helmets in those deleted scenes? I don't recall there being any to be honest, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

Just as an aside, do you hate the Blastr redesign as much as I do? The haphazard arrangement of articles all over the screen looks like the news threw up on it. What was so wrong with things being logical and sequential?

What are you people thinking about the villain in light of this ad and what is said in it?
Over at io9:Star Trek Into Darkness Super Bowl spot is Enterprise torture porn Things don't look good for the Enterprise in the Super Bowl spot for Star Trek Into Darkness. I still don't know what to think about the villain. He must have some sort of power, but the nature of that is unknown. Describing himself as "better" certainly has echoes of both Khan and Mitchell, but then again it could just be yet another similar character who isn't supposed to be either.

Well, messing up the ship could lead to a better set in another movie. But that said, destroying the ship has been done, and one thing that these movies haven't established is that the ship itself is a beloved character in this universe.
That's why it meant so much when Kirk had to destroy it in TSFS.

Nah.
But when I first saw the new ad over the weekend, I wondered if Abrams was also trying to tell us something about who the character is. And yes, either Khan or Mitchell, or an entirely new character could apply based on what limited information we have to go on at the moment.

Well, messing up the ship could lead to a better set in another movie. Do you really think Abrams would concede that the bridge design he decided to go with was in fact a mistake in that way? Because I don't, although it really does look as though the ship gets destroyed in this next movie.
Unless they opt to get with a typical Trek reset at the end.

So Khan dies, gets reborn from Genesis, goes back in time, gets younger, and turns British? Could work.
As for the ship taking damage, it opens the possibility of change. I'd like to see the better nacelles.

Gary Mitchell didn't have a British accent either.

If Khan wasn't such a pathetic unoriginal idea, Abrams wouldn't be hiding it. Or, he's not hiding it, and Harrison is just Harrison.

I just saw the fan made trailer and I have to say- both hilarious and a very disciplined recreation at the same time!
Regarding the film- Whomever the villain turns out to be, one thing seems very clear and I am very much looking forward to it- Kirk being tested, to a degree we've not seen thus far in the alternate timeline.
